VC FoF exit ops?

This forum shits on the FoF industry but curious wondering what kind of exit ops there are for VC FoF? Anyone ever made the jump over from investing in venture funds into actual direct investing?

I can see why its advisable to steer clear of FoF early on in your career especially in PE/HF but Venture is a far more qualitative way of investing. Would imagine people have made this jump before but would love some insight.

Thanks!

Most likely "exit" is going to a family office to do the same thing.

The only way this experience is valuable for direct investing is if you work on co-investments which, to the best of my knowledge, is not often the case in the VC space, unless you're a huge LP (Harbourvest and the like). Or if you're the anchor LP for some new fund and get to work with them. Really depends on what you end up doing at the FoF I guess.

Massive pension fund with a mandate to seed and build a platform for emerging managers.

I've seen people in Venture come from all walks of life that it makes me hard to think not being close to managers isn't a good thing (if you can find a way to provide value - on the job or off)

Curious if anyone on WSO has made this jump specifically in the venture world.
