VC Internships on Handshake - should I be networking?

Hi everyone, I'm currently applying to some VC internships at smaller (less than 50 people) firms listed directly on my school's Handshake site. I was wondering if I should be networking with people at the firm for these sort of postings? I know that in banking, networking with analysts is key to getting them to pull out your resume from the pile for recruiters, but I was wondering if a similar process applied to VC as well. I'm sure it varies from firm to firm but I was just wondering if that was the approach I should be taking in general.
