Venture capital versus Equity Research

Hi all,
Can somebody shed light on pros and cons of having job between these two sector in terms of growth oppurtunities, work life balance, prestige and of course money-making and growth potential. Given that VC offer is in a small house while equity research oppurtunity is in a BB and or indpendent house.
Thanks
S

If you are going to do ER; do it in a BB, not a independent house

VC is much more prestigious if you get an actual analyst position. BUT make sure they are going to be willing to promote you passed a certain level, some won't let you get to a senior level without formerly running a company... Also, if it's small make sure its reputable so you will get paid a fair price/ they won't go bankrupt on you. VC is rgeat and most people aspire to work in the industry, but if it's a really shitty firm this doesn't apply...

Interesting opinion SternMonkey. It really depends on your interests. If you are really into emerging technologies, building a company from $1M to $500M then VC is for you. If you love following the public markets and want to be in a position where your insights can move markets, then do ER. Pitting ER against VC is like comparing apples to oranges. But I will agree that for some reason, society seems to think of VCs = God. Obviously I don't share this opinion,
