Your description of the situation is a little confusing -- at first you imply that your entire office isn't busy, but later on you say that everyone else is seems busy except for you. So is your concern that, despite there being a lot of work, they aren't specifically giving you any work? Or are you worried about the health of the firm, in general?
Also, did your firm recently open up this office in your city? If so, the newness of the office, coupled with Covid, might just be delaying their ramp-up.
Sorry for being unclear -- most are busy with pitches/marketing work. So I'm worried about both. The fact that the group isn't doing super well (& how they laid off a few people early 2020) coupled with the fact that I am not getting much work.
Spend your free time modeling (just rebuild old ones from the drive), reading about your industry, and studying up on deal process. You’ll learn a lot more than the kids who are PowerPoint jockeying right now.
Maybe let the other analysts/associates know you've got time, and if you still don't get more work, be upfront with an analyst/associate you trust -- "Hey, I've got the time, but it seems like I might not be getting as much as some of other AN1s... is it because I screwed up something in the past? And if I did, I'd love to know what it was so I can work on that weakness and make sure that mistake never happens again."
As someone said above. Make sure that the work you are getting is done perfectly, there could be a handful of reasons you are not getting staffed and the last thing you want to be doing is dosing off while everyone else is grinding. This is a recipe for Bottom bucket.
Wtf confused by this entire thread. Dude you won the jackpot just keep making that money and do something on the side. Not sure why that associate recommended you waste time with models or industry news. Just enjoy yourself or pick up a new skill/business that you can monetize. There's so much out there. Lucky bastard

I'm in the same boat as you right now, how did things turn out?
Is your firm hiring? Asking for a friend..
