Veteran That's New to the Finance World
Good morning everyone!
I am early 30s currently Active Duty military, that is looking to transition into the finance world. I received an MBA from a non-target school and have begun studying for the CFA. I have about a year left on Active Duty and I want to maximize my chances upon separation.
Besides networking with alumni or other veterans, what else can I do to get into this very competitive industry? I have seen reading Rosenbaum is a good start, but any other readings or certification advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Thank you for your service! Also is there an area that you are interested in specifically? IB, WM, AM, Corp Dev?
Thanks! I am most interested in IB but also interested in the others, especially if they provide a better pathway for starting in my 30s
Nice! Rosenbaum is definitely a great book to read. For IB, I personally think you should leverage your military experience to network with other veterans in the space. I know alot if VPs and MDs at MM and Boutiques have a ton of former military. That would be my first suggestion, since I'm sure they would love to get on the phone with you. You're already doing this so that's good. Really there aren't much types of certifications that would help. You can try for the Bloomberg markets but not sure how expensive that is and how helpful it is coming in as an associate. I would say just keep networking and apply for FT or a Summer Associate Program and keep in touch with the connections throughout the process and good things will happen.
Thank you for the advice! I am excited to start this new chapter of my life.
