Virtual Interview Insights - ANY INPUTS (Has your computer crashed during an interview?)
Hi fellas,
A lot of the interviews lately have been happening virtually because of the virus, and I was wondering if people could share their experiences or serious issues they have had with virtual interviews. My 2018 Mackbook Pro even with the latest software update continues to crash/shut off during Zoom meetings
(obviously going to fix this soon), and I want to know if anyone has experienced a crash during an interview and how they handled with it.
Would appreciate any insight/input and best of luck with recruitment/interviews.
In one of my superdays this year, my computer didn't let me into breakout rooms unless I exited the zoom call in between meetings. In my 2nd interview I was 10 minutes late because HR couldn't figure it out. 5 minutes late to the 3rd interview for the same reason. Hit it off with interviewers, but I feel like this didn't give the best impression.
Didn't get that offer.
In another superday, I didn't have the best wifi connection because I was at work. First 10 minutes, it kept cutting out. The associate who interviewed me was extremely frustrated - he called me on the phone for the rest of it and I could tell he was still annoyed. I figured out how to fix the issue, then I impressed the next 2 guys (both MDs).
Didn't get that offer either.
It's bullcrap to be honest. If you have technical issues then it sucks to say, but you may be screwed. Borrow your friend's computer (or buy one on a loan) and get a solid internet connection that won't cut out, it's the only way.

Did you attempt to get back into the interview through app on the phone or did you just give up
Although I have not myself had this happen, I know someone who recently (since Covid) had their Live Video Interview cut off due to their poor Internet connection. The way they handled this (and actually landed the job after), was to swiftly reconnect to Zoom by 'hotspotting' his phone, although I believe this did take 5 minutes. Following this, they used their handling of it to their advantage, citing it as one example of flexible working even in the face of adversity. This would not have been possible had they not remained calm and acted fast. If this happens to you, i'd recommend not to panic primarily. These things happen, and perhaps if they don't account for these things and aren't understanding of this, maybe they aren't right for you.
