If you think WFH and recruiting are stressful, wait until you hit the desk in IB and have a dinner allowance to order unhealthy Seamless meals, are 100% sedentary and working 18 hour days at a desk.
**Start a workout regimen NOW.** Not joking, take it from me, been in this business many years now and watched it happen to myself and others - it's easy to gain 5-10 pounds per year (6 pounds per year is only half a pound gained per month, which is only ~3,000 excess calories a month or ~100 per day). Your energy will flag. Your will to live will flag. Change your habits now while you can.
Have you read Compound effect by Darren Hardy? it lays out this exact same scenario where some one cuts 100 calories out and another adds 100 calories.
Interestingly I haven't read it, but will give it a look for sure! Always need more discipline. Thanks for the recommendation.
Uch, totally, now have to do Zoom calls, that's pretty motivating. This weight must go -
Yeah I did since I'm usually a workout a ton + eat a lot kind of chonkyboi. Better now though since I can go to the gym again.
If you can't find one hour during the day to hit the gym right now, then you need to manage your time significantly better. Going to the gym all comes down to discipline and, as someone else stated, you need to build these habits now because they are much easier to maintain during banking than they are to build. I'm actually in better shape now than before COVID. I'm cooking at home (instead of takeout at the office) so eating healthier and have more flexibility to hit the gym these days so getting in more workouts.
I had a great gym routine before COVID; to be fair I was actually going down the CPA route (found out about IB too late) and when COVID came I took it as an opportunity to finally make the shift to high-finance with the extra time. I was working FT over the summer and trying to network with folks in IB in my home country + US (I go to a non-target outside of the US), and learn all the IB technicals all within a couple of months. But I have a Superday tomorrow w a US BB! I know it sounds like a shit load of excuses (to be fair some of it is) but I think 4 months a tad bit out of shape to make this jump would have totally been worth it, and I don't think I could have gotten to this point had I not focused on nothing but recruiting.
That's fair and best of luck with the interview! Just keep in mind that you're going to be trying to maintain a fitness routine while working 80-100 hours per week in IB, along with the other life distractions of seeing friends / family, a significant other and what not so it's a good thing to work on prioritizing before life gets too hectic.
I still find "real" cooking to be hard to do with WFH. Don't get me wrong cooking some chicken and rice is not hard to do but, I don't really consider this cooking. To cook something that actually tastes good and that I have time to go get the right ingredients for is so hard.
Haha let's be real, i'm not out here making duck a l'orange or beef wellington so I won't proclaim myself the next Bobby Flay. However, I like eating just chicken, rice, broccoli, fish and stuff like that so it works for me. Also, I think a meal service like Trifecta or Freshly is the move for lunches right now if you're trying to be pretty healthy.
COVID started and I ended up looking like Zion after the NBA restart, and only in the sense that I got fat.
Time to restart herbal magic
Why the hell would you need an offer to give yourself permission to work out? Working out regularly will put you in a better place mentally and will be beneficial when you're going through interviews
explained my situation a few comments above ^
Fair enough, sounds like you made good use of the time
Buy home gym equipment, workout first thing in the morning before things get busy and watch David Goggins on social media telling you to stop making excuses.
