Weird for Traditional Applicant to Take GRE?
I'm applying to business school this year from a traditional background-- HYP undergrad, three years of MBB consulting, and two years of UMM PE (Advent, Berkshire, Golden Gate, New Mountain-type firm). Because I had little time to study and already have a decent vocabulary, I decided to take the GRE instead of the GMAT and scored a 339/340 (170 Q/169 V).
I was reading WSO and other online forums, and posters implied it was weird for someone with a traditional background to take the GRE. Do you think admissions officers will be confused by my taking the GRE? Should I take the GMAT too?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
I have absolutely no clue or opinion as to GMAT vs GRE. But I god forbid anyone worth their weight discounts the GRE with a perfect score.
Should be fine although non-traditionals taking GRE may be more common.
A 339 GRE is truly baller. Congrats!
GRE is becoming more and more popular over the recent years for B-school students. B-schools prefer GMAT as that is what is used to rank them on US News, FT, Forbes, Economist.... GRE is accepted and there is no negative stigma with it.
In-fact it is recommended people take the GRE if they have good verbal skills and GMAT for good quant skills. You have a 339 in the GRE which is down right amazing score and the schools will accept you regardless.
GRE quant has gotten harder at least in terms of scoring. Would argue GRE verbal is easier to improve than GMAT verbal.
Source: Have taken both.
Nah focus on the other parts of your app. You're way above the average GRE score for every MBA program, and all of the MBA adcoms say to take whatever you'll do better at.
