"We'll keep your resume on file"
Has anyone ever actually gotten a call back after a rejection where the company said "we'll keep your resume on file?" I hear this all of the time, but was curious if any monkeys have ever been dinged after a final round to actually get an offer or additional interviews later on.
from my experience, it's just a formality. have been hit with the "kept on file" line countless times, and it has never amounted to anything.
just my experience though (in UK) - others may vary.
hell no, unless everyone else that they pick before you gets caught smoking crack then move on
No, never
Normally means if you see another job you like talk to the HR person you used, but doesn't guarantee anything.
If getting the job somewhere was a hundred yard dash, your basically starting 1 yard ahead of everything else
I interviewed for a role and got no offer. Got a call about a month later and they wanted me to come in to interview with a different team, and ended up getting an offer. Not sure if HR pulled my resume or if it was due to a recommendation from the first team (leaning towards the latter).
Believe it or not, yes.
Worked in corporate finance at a large bank. Tried to get into the M&A program. Denied.
Hired for a role at a boutique M&A shop. There for 5+ years.
No joke, FIVE YEARS LATER a recruiter emailed me. Said she looked at my resume, then found my LinkedIN profile and thought I would be a good fit for a promotion from my current role.
I NEVER thought something like that would happen.
I think this is more likely for more senior roles where the applicant pool is smaller.
We've reengaged with some VP/Director type candidates who weren't quite a fit the first go around but were worth considering for a hiring process a year or so down the line. Only a finite number of say consumer luxury goods-focused Directors in the IB market to begin with.
For entry level roles where they can solicit hundreds of applicants with a job posting, I'd guess almost no chance unless it is a tiny regional market.
Cold called for pigeon-holing opportunity in agency lending multi fam and cre. Connections told me range which surprised me (20-25% more than I make currently) but made sense, since most people know its a dead-end style of business (unless sales) so they have to pay more...anyway...said my floor would be 50% more than what I make now. Ended up getting the "we'll keep you on file", which is fine, did not bother me at all, and a month later got an email asking if I was still interested. I was not.
