Wells Fargo PWM to IBD Chances?

I have a Wealth and Investment Management Internship lined up for Summer 2017 with Wells Fargo on the west coast. My grades are within 3.0 - 3.5 range, I go to a non-target school in the Midwest, currently in two business related clubs, my major is Finance... What do YOU think my chances are of breaking in for Summer 2018? Have you heard any non-traditional entrances into IBD like mine? Please share.

I really appreciate your input, iBankedUp. Currently doing above average this semester (grades wise), taking two classes online this summer... So, my GPA should hopefully be in better shape. Oh and also, I'm a "junior" though I'll be graduating Fall 2018. So, luckily for me, I have that extra summer to get either IBD or PE experience.

Start networking now. Search "investment banking" under your university's alumni on linkedin & reach out to all of them. Gear yourself to a mindset of knowing what an IB analyst does and how your (developing) trackrecord/experience gears you for that. Cut all the bs that anyone tells you and just learn how to model in your free time. Always get another contact from anyone that gets on the phone with you. Work towards meeting people in person, and don't be a douchebag even if you feel like the guy you're talking to is. A banker should evoke "trust" lol.

Keep talking and building your network, its not about your gpa if that is your concern. A better GPA will help you recognized/foot in the door, but at the end of the day it does come down to your skillset. Build the IBbanking skillset, whichever department you would like to go into, and learn to really sell yourself during every interaction/networking opportunity possible.

I had a 2.9 from a non target in the midwest and managed to get BB DCM interviews because I understood that far better than a philosophy major from a target school.
