WFH Forever
Its official my employer is going remote... I am honestly not even sure what to do long term. I am curious how many other companies are doing the same.
Also curious how bad this will be for office space REITs. I also figure this will encourage other companies to provide the same, because I would want a 200k bump just to deal with cities like NYC when compared to remote work.
where is hq? this is the first i've heard in ib. will be more. but not sustainable long term.
OP's tag is AM...
I am in AM, but I would assume IB wouldn't go remote.
However, AM, HF, Back Office and Corp Fin could go remote. I am curious about all industries though.
no word yet on my firm. traders going back first, wouldn't be shocked if there's more flexibility going forward, consolidation of offices, stuff like that, but no announcements
We did a few of these - primarily offices, taking on WeWork style space (amazing how that has become the vernacular.. considering). It won't be fully remote, but I think there will be considerably more general flexibility moving forward. My guess is by the end of the year, we are more or less back in the office with some cadence that looks like 3 days a week or more. I don't think it will be a build your own schedule, but certainly I think individuals will have more ability to set their schedule than before.

You not sure what to do ? Renting a seaside house in Bali or Hawaï would be a nice start ...
Seriously who would complain about this 😂
My company is not going back until at least September and is now talking about majority telework permanently (3 days a week telework, with teams rotating in and out of the office). I have mixed emotions about it. On the one hand, for us introverts telework is not particularly difficult. For everyone, it provides a huge amount of flexibility. On the other hand, it will destroy my company's culture. We had a really nice campus; so many people had made genuine friends at work. I met girls/potential dates at work. All of that is pretty much done, and that does make me sad.
Telework is the destruction of company culture, although that’s not really the purpose of a company--the purpose is to earn money for shareholders, so culture really is secondary. We will still come into the office 2 days a week, but with other teams rotating off, the campus will feel dead and we will virtually never interact with the other teams anymore. But it seems to be what the people want--the Netflix generation where people want to stay home, order takeout, and watch TV.

Do you mind sharing the name of the bank?
One of my co-workers told me this evening she is hoping to leverage the company's need for her to get full telework so she can move to Budapest and still work her job in D.C. I suspect we are going to see a lot of people try to land the dream gig here in the next year.
Won't that cause issues with the time zone difference?
Come to think of it, that never came up in my convo with her. Never occurred to me that that might pose a problem, but indeed it may.
I dont see how FO roles in AM, HF, IB etc can be WFH 100%
maybe senior ppl can and perhaps a few days WFH for mid level
but analysts - no way
