What are the most important skills/qualities to have for a origination analyst
I’ve been looking at origination analyst positions. I was curious what are applications are used the most. Also what are the main indicators when originating debt, refinancing loan, extending construction loans etc. Are there any books/vids out there to learn more?
Hi SethDavis1, yes, I'm a bot, but I'm also good looking. Hopefully, these threads help you:
Hope that helps.
Debt positions are typically excel or Argus to spit out to your PLA in Excel. Not the answer you want since you can't take a class but the two most important skills are organization and baseline competence. Not sure what type of indicators you mean besides LTV, DY and DSCR?
Organization is key, especially if you're in a shop with a lot of deal flow. Additionally, I would say that the ability to switch gears and juggle multiple tasks without getting overwhelmed will be important. Nobody wants to work with a whiny analyst.
Underwriting debt financing is simple for the most part and the math shouldn't be anything you can't learn. However, coming in proficient at excel will help you to be a stand out and potentially get more worthwhile tasks assigned to you. When you land the job find a mentor in the office and ask questions.
