What are your favorite quotes?

There's so much out there in terms of famous sayings. A few words encapsulate a range of emotions and feelings that we can relate to in the current moment. Quotes are a way of time travel in that years after they are said, we still read and reflect upon the shared experiences, humor, and observations they bring,

With that said, here are some of my favorite quotes. What are yours?

First the art thread, now this. dchd9, I feel like we have similar taste. It might sound nerdy, but I keep a Word document on my personal laptop with my favorite quotes. Probably my top four:

Haha, I read a book once on how to survive college. The author's professor told him about the lives of Supreme Court justices, all of which were pretty simple (e.g., Justice Souter drinking a glass of milk every night while living w/ mom). They were nerds through and through, always studying and preferring to stay in. The professor made it a point every class to end by saying "nerds win the ball game!". I'd say it worked out well for Mr. Souter. I appreciate your comment :)

Haha I remember reading this baseball joke; it's similar to what you said. The joke came about after Walter O'Malley, owner of the then Brooklyn Dodgers moved them to Los Angeles.

I'm familiar with Burns' work; he also did a 10 part documentary called Baseball.

I'll check out Civil War, though. Thanks for the recommendation.

 

Baseball is good, too, but Civil War is by far his best. It used to be on Netflix but it was taken off about 2 months ago. Even though I've seen it a dozen times, I still bought it on iTunes because its the best thing to watch when nothing is on.

This Polish motherfucker that my dad knew, he used to say the most obnoxious and fake bullshit, and I've been listening to stories about him since I was a little kid. He claims to have been in prison when he was younger -- his alleged cellmate was a guy named "Big Bubba" -- and has somehow evaded an arrest warrant issued for a parking ticket for the past twenty-five years.

Such gems have included:

"He's like my truck: he wants to run but he can't." (Regarding a man with a bum leg.)

"How much does a Chinaman cost, anyways?" (Said at the bar at a Chinese restaurant.)

"Johnny! I'm going Asian!" (Frequently said to my dad's best friend at places all over the map; last time I heard it, we were at John's mother's funeral: when he walked into the church, he whispered those words into John's ear.)

"I've got an international license." (Said to a policeman that pulled him over.)

"I'm gonna get six limousines, and all of them will have girls in them! When we drive down the Mass Pike, I'll jump from limousine to limousine." (Said after he was scammed by John into "winning" the "Jamaican Lottery".)

He's also a known scam artist with his job; he's actually a very good carpenter, but he likes to dash with the cash without the work. Many people in our circle have threatened to kill him over the past twenty-eight years.
