What are your morning and night routines before and after work?
Finance job is notorious for having no work life balance. I have recently come across the website: mymorningroutine.com and I found it interesting to read through the sort of daily routines different people have.
I was wondering what kind of daily routines you guys have to keep yourselves from getting burned out? What do you guys usually do before and after work? (exercise, read a book etc)
you have to exercise if your putting in long hours, so make that an absolute priority. do somethign to relax.
youre so fuckin right. when I interned I tacked on dumb weight and never worked out. Full time is even worse but you gotta make time and eat healthy and you'll feel so much better. Also drink a ton a water. You gotta hydrate the hustle.
to answer OP, mornings are a mess but at night I try to read some since I feel like getting into a habit of reading could be good. If not reading, theres always Netflix/Xbox
you'd all make fun of me and call me patrick bateman :( several amino acids and a mini trampoline are involved.

No joke that's a good workout. Missing Goldie :(
The people that live below you have got to hate you ha
Nah I try to be really respectful. And my floors are well insulated. They're signing a second lease with a rent increase, so they must like something.
do you want to show us your edible-compost crockpot again?
I'm into health and fitness (although I've been TERRIBLE lately), but you definitely take the cake.
don't. DON'T.
Mornings are a good workout time to get you awake and ready for the day. Make sure to do at least some kind of exercise consistently or the rough work hours will really start to creep up and wreak havoc upon your health. At night, take time to relax. Watch a movie or a show, read a book, have some fun and destress after work. Make sure, however, to get as much sleep as you can, especially in the inevitable 100 hour work weeks. Good meals are also a must, but there is no need to go too overboard with that.
In the morning I just try to hold on for dear life. After work I usually either work out or drink alcohol until I go numb. It doesn't work.
You've gotta work on that last part mate
Working out in any way (cardio, weights, shooting hoops) will 1) keep you in better shape so you don't feel like shit all the time 2) More importantly wake up your brain and prevent grogginess you maximize that first hour of work everyone else is spending getting coffee and trying to wake up.
Workout in the AM. Trying to ride those endorphins and pre workout out throughout the day.
Then, once, the inevitable shit hits the fan at 7 PM, I'm not as annoyed about staying late.
Morning: wake up around 6:45, in the office by 7:30 and clear out my inbox, catch up on news/research/market insights for about an hour.
After work: gym, make dinner, throw something on netflix and fuck around on the internet, or read a book, all to unwind/destress. Study for a little, then be in bed by 12 at the latest
Damn. I wish I could operate on such little sleep. Props.
Honestly I could get more sleep, but I can feel the melancholy creep up if I just work, gym, study, and sleep. Would rather trade that sleep time to follow things I'm interested in and catch up on non-finance happenings
Thankfully I don't have much work on the weekends, so I try to catch up on rest and activities
0830 (latest): Getting the f* up and drinking some supplements. 0900: Hopefully at the gym by that time. 1030: Should be drinking a coffe to actually wake the f* up. 1230 - 1430 (latest): Hitting the office to get my pre-market research rolling. 0000: Dinner. 0000 - 0300: Aftermarket recap, trading diary, reading, the occasional beer and one more thing most single guys can probably guess.
Why are your hours trending later than most? If I want the gym, I'm up at 5:30 typically.
Time zone difference. If I had adjusted for that, I'd essentially "be at the gym" at 0200.
Basically trading the US markets from Eastern Europe.
Basically, gym in the morning and sleep at night, nothing interesting. Just trying to keep my head above water and stay sane.
How long can you do this though before you go insane?
Up and showered by 0530, take a quick peak at cnbc and see whats going on for the morning and then pick-up breakfast and at office by 0615.
Mornings - breakfast and coffee (lots) After work - gym, then shower and hit local watering hole with friends
Don't know how you can consistently drink with friends and not feel like shit the next day.
THC, Espresso with cocoa and dark chocolate almond milk, pre, gym

Currently doing garden leave and moving over to commodities S&T at a BB -- but prior to this new gig I worked in IBD at a competing BB and had multiple 100 hour weeks back to back last fall.
In spite of sleeping approximately 4 hours / night during those weeks I would still go out on the weekends and stay up until 4 or 5am. Shortly thereafter, I got such bad pneumonia that I got put in the hospital for 2 nights with IV antibiotics and then had to stay home for an additional 2 weeks to recover lol.
After that awful experience I overhauled my exercise / sleep hygiene and started watching my diet and felt a lot healthier throughout the rest of my time in IBD.
Important takeaways that I learned are as follows: 1. Find your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and do not exceed those calories in a given day, if attempting to lose weight aim for 200-500 calories below this figure (Apple Watch will calculate it for you based on a few data points that it collects) 2. Limit your intake of carbs, I generally follow a keto/paleo diet, you'll find that you have much more focus and sustained energy because you're avoiding the insulin peaks and troughs caused by high carb intake 3. You must must do some form of cardio, I started to do stair master 3x per week in addition to my lifts I would lift Fri-Sun morning and if I was hungover I'd go to the gym an 1.5 hrs before close to give some time to recover but you MUST workout 3x per week minimum and incorporate some form of cardio, Fri-Sun worked best fo me as my hours during the week were terrible 4. If people in the office are starting to get sick, start loading up on zinc and vitamin c in order to give your immune system a fighting chance, the lack of sleep will significantly reduce your ability to fight off catching colds and other annoyances 5. If you are having a rough week DO NOT get FOMO and go out on the weekend to blow off steam, just stay home and relax with a chick or something
As for my morning routine specifically -- I would wake up as late as possible (8:00am or so) have a quick shower and attempt to get to the office 30min before my Associate so that I would have time to catch up on some news and grab a milky coffee drink before the day got into full swing.
Not sure what to expect looking ahead once I start my new gig in S&T but I know that I'll be awake much much earlier (5:30 or 6:00am). But will follow a similar plan of arriving before the rest of my team to catch up on news before starting the day, I tend to favor high protein low carb breakfast and a milky coffee drink the the morning. i.e. 2 hard boiled eggs, some berries, and a cappuccino and usually eat this at my desk while catching up on headlines.

Typically get home between 6-7 pm. Often get home to food cooked by the gf, but if not I cook or we go out. Gym around 8PM to blow off steam built up throughout the day. Contrary to many who workout in the morning, I've found I get better lifts in at night, not sure why... I try to get home from there by 10, hop in the shower then play the piano till I get tired, usually for 30 minutes or whenever the gf says its time for bed ahah. Try to be asleep by midnight, waking at 6:30
