What banks / groups would you lever a GS offer for?

If one has an offer at GS, and hypothetically has had some networking success at places like Moelis LA/MS M&A/PJT RSSG (I know they're done recruiting right now)/EVR M&A or even more broadly any EB, which of those places would be worth going to and trying to lever your GS offer for an accelerated super? Is it worth it to lever a GS offer for Centerview or Laz or something?

My 2 cents, I doubt leveraging will work.

The connection linking these groups are that they are the most prestigious groups to be in. You’ve listed the top 5 most elite groups you could be in - GS (TMT), Evercore M&A, Moelis LA, MS M&A, and PJT RSSG. When you look outside of exclusivity, however, these groups are so different.
How are you going to explain to PJT RSSG that you’re also interested in GS (let’s assume TMT, but really any coverage group) when one is a boutique doing RX specific work and the other is TMT specific M&A? What’s the story for why you’re passionate about RX then?

Similarly, how would Moelis LA take to you saying you’re drawn to their M&A and RX joint structure and tight knit analyst class when you’re also applying to MS M&A, a large bulge bracket that does only M&A work?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with being interested in these groups for being prestigious, as they do provide stellar opportunities. Being at one of these top 5 groups would be a phenomenal place to start your career. But given how competitive the process is, you should be applying to every bank you can think of. However, don’t reveal this during the interview process/leveraging. Leverage with banks in the same realm (EB vs BB, M&A vs RX).

Besides the TMT example, I don't see why it would be hard to explain that you landed a BB offer (due to casting a wide net and applying everywhere) but have always preferred boutiques -- in fact, you prefer boutiques so much... specifically THIS boutique.. that you are implying you would take an offer from them over the BB. Simply leveraging an offer in and of itself should show a high level of interest in the bank you're trying to accelerate at.

GS TMT Analyst here - I actually would disagree slightly. The caveat I believe is whether you're recruiting for a summer analyst position or full time / lateral position. For SA, banks just generally want people who have a good grasp at finance and at least some minor interest to the industry / product coverage.

Therefore, you could in theory leverage a GS TMT offer for PJT RX, and I believe PJT will probably look at you more favorably given that you've achieved some degree of signaling by attaining the first offer. That said, for lateral offers, I'd agree with the above point to a greater extent given that there is expected to be slightly more of a focus towards the specific industry / product, given that you've spent some time (though perhaps not considerable) already in investment banking.

what Analyst3+ said is really good. also i don't think it's much of a plausible case anyways given the timelines. PJT RSSG, Moelis LA, EVR M&A are all 100% done and have been for a while. It's been months since they've been done whereas GS and MS stick to the late summer timeline.

I'm more interested in certain sectors so really depends on that. I find healthcare and industrials cool for different reasons, and if GS TMT had given me an offer while I was in college and I was interviewing for something like JPM Healthcare or a strong industrials team, I would probably take that instead.

Dayman?

Is EVR M&A that strong? I understand that the other groups mentionned are god-tier and that EVR is very good, but the strenght seems to me dependant of the sector you are in, so not very fair to compare it to other banks without mentioning their other top groups (let's say PJT M&A). Would be curious to hear you guys' opinion

more broadly curious, not specific to those 5 groups mentioned, but has anyone had success leveraging a GS offer?

has anyone had success leveraging GS to CVP or Laz, since they haven't done non-diversity yet?
