What clothes to wear as a graduate? (complete newbie)
I got a trainee job at Big 4 in London, in a technology role. I know nothing about fashion so if you could tell me the exact name of the style of 'jeans' or shirts I should wear that would be great. What colours?
What budget should I have? Where should I shop?
Out of curiosity would it be a no-no to show up in a suit (without a tie) on my first day? As in it would be 'too much'?
If you wear something that isn't Versace branded, they will laugh your ass out of London. Wearing a suit without a tie is "fucking nutters!"
Thanks for the constructive comment.
I would just wear a suit and tie on the first day as it is your first day on the job.
In my experience, Tech roles at banks/big 4 generally seem a little more laid back, so to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if you come into the office and see everyone with just shirt and jacket - no tie.
Again, I would assess the work place when you come in. It is better to be over dressed on the first day and then change accordingly for the following days.
In regards to your budget/clothes, it is rather hard to judge given I don't know salary/what the culture is like, as far as I know the Big 4 are known for not paying a lot of money, especially for graduate roles. I would say talk to people you work with and ask where they buy their jeans/shirts/etc. If not, I assume you're tech savvy, use google and literally google jeans/shirts/etc. to find brands you like and just purchase those.
All this failing: Shirts - Brooks Brothers, Charles T, TM Lewin, Thomas Pink, Hawes & Curtis Shoes - Churchs, Barker, Grenson, Jeffrey West
Thank you so much! TM Lewin seems like the perfect choice. Wearing trousers is fine, right? After all I am just a trainee.
Nah, go trouserless. Trainees always go trouserless.
So jeans then? Where should I buy them from?
