What degree to get?

Hi! I have been shadowing WSO for a while now, and now it's time to break the ice. So I am looking to attend college, and am currently enrolled. But I am having the trouble of choosing a degree of which generates the most income, I have been looking into Computer Science, Economics, etc.

Rags to Hermes:

I hate when people ask these questions. You are on a Finance board and want to get a job in the Finance industry. Common sense says that a Finance degree will be the most suiting.

If your school doesn't have Finance then take Economics.

Questions are never stupid. Answers might..

a. if your school rank isn't top-notch, YES, you better pick finance or stay in B-school. b. it depends on if you can do GREAT in the program. Don't pick something for the sake, but for the sake that you love the subject, would work overnight for it, and can finish strong! c. if you have time/money/energy, obviously business-leaning disciplines would be great (math, business, econ, even Psychology).

Yes my comment probably came off as asinine. However, the assumption would be that if someone wants to get a job in the Finance industry then hopefully they would find interest in the subject, as it will eventually become their life.

I understand that obviously other degrees may help refine skills that may prove better depending on the specific career path within finance. (Quants need more Math/Computer skills) etc.

At the end of the day your course of study, and ultimately career, should be something that you are passionate about. Some people go into finance because they are passionate about the markets, finance, economics, etc... Others are simply passionate about money, prestige, etc...

Bottomline is that one won't be GREAT at something unless they have an underlying passion that motivates them.
