What degree(s) should I declare?
I've still got a hot minute (2ish years) before I have to even choose a college, but I figured proactivity is better than procrastination. I want to be an investment banker and then get a job on the buy side, but I'm also thinking about becoming a quant. The thing is, I'm also looking at software development because I think it could be a good backup job. I'm thinking of getting a Bachelor in Computer Science and either a double major with finance or economics or a master in financial engineering. And maybe a minor in math. I'm trying to figure out my college plan, so I have some questions:
- Could somebody with an MFE and BA/BS in CS get a job as an analyst?
- Do quants get promoted like analysts do, eventually becoming VPs and MDs with matching salaries and responsibility?
- Should IB not work out, would I still be able to get a Software Engineering or Development job in NYC afterwards?
- Should I get an MFE or declare a double major? If double, what major?
- How hard is it to get a Wall Street job from NYU? Is it only represented so well because it is larger than other target schools?
- Around how many people who try to get a BB job from a target school find one?
Any help would be much appreciated!
