"What do you do on the average weekend"
How did you guys answer this without sounding like a complete nerd? I'm pretty sure they will know you are full of crap if you talk about building financial models in your free time and reading the wall street journal 20 times (or if you are telling the truth, they will feel very sorry for you), but I also feel that mentioning partying would be idiotic. How do you get out that you work hard, but that you also have a personality?
Talk about the sports you play, the instruments you practice, and the hobbies you enjoy (chess, blackjack, whatever you do). Also, I know you're hesitant to mention partying, but it's important to humanize yourself. I mentioned things the above things (not the partying), and one guy asked, "do you ever just hang out with friends?" So then I talked about how sampling the restaurants around town with my friends is an enjoyable activity when I have the time. I also mentioned that I really enjoy studying in groups with friends because then I get both social and academic fulfillment. Basically, use that question to show how interesting, dynamic, and human you are beyond just the work you can do.
I said I usually go drinking with friends and play baseball.
answer truthfully.
In my experience, I have usually said '..., hanging out with my brother, going to comedy clubs, and spending time at my fraternity.' This usually elicits a response along the lines of 'Yeah? I wonder what you do at your fraternity...' or some other joking reference to drinking. For me, I use this as a lead-in to talking about the leadership roles and responsibility I've had within the fraternity, etc. If you're not in a fraternity, saying something along the lines of 'spending time with friends' will probably do. But I agree with the above that you should be truthful but find appropriate language to describe what you do--i.e., 'hang out with friends' as opposed to 'binge drinking Tuesday-Saturday'.
Mountain biking, skiing, traveling, etc. Just don't say studying.
I said I went out to the bars, played sports and smoked weed.

website: www.ibtraining.com
It's kind of pricey, $2,400 altogether for a month crash course or a total of 24 hours, where they teach you all kinds of modeling, pitching and then how to handle the interviews.
I go to Stern, and I have a semester left, and I have pretty much covered a little bit of everything that is on the syllabus.
But, I would get to put this on my resume, because I am not interning in IB this summer.
Does this institute sound good? Is there enough bang for my buck?
Thanks.
hey i saw this same training course and thought it was interesting? Did you already go through it or are you planning on doing it?
I don't have any direct IB experience and figured if I did this thing, it might look good when and if I land an interview?
yeah man, I was like 'I love hanging out at the bar' and watching ball. The english here were like 'What? you mean football?'
I was like 'no, Basketball'
They thought my response was so ghetto it made me a minority hire. fucking english.
i go to stern too ;-)
you can mention casual drinking...say 'sometimes i go out for drinks with friends.' makes you sound mature, and once you're in, drinking with clients is part of work.
i said i went out with friends and played sports - this question is asked of you just to see your human side and make sure your someone that they could imagine having a few beers with and/or joking around with late at night
