Excel and Powerpoint are my friends. We have a good time together. Whenever I am upset they are right there beside me. Whenever I get angry or need to just yell it out I do so to Excel and Powerpoint. Amazingly, not once have they yelled back at me. They keep secrets amazing. They are also the cheapest friends anyone could ask for.

Controversial

I recently moved to CT for a job. I don't know anyone up here. Just work people. So on the weekends, I'm rather bored. To keep myself occupied, I go through trading strategies, try to improve my edge, work on python on code academy which been a huge help, I tag along for flag football and etc on meetup dot com, go to the gym to relieve stress. The worst thing you can do is be stressed and let yourself go. Honestly, I don't care too much about social life. My "best" friends will be around but at the end of the day, they don't care about your wife and your kids like you. You lose a job and get can't pay your mortgage or put food on the table for your kids, you think your so called fiends will pay? Hell no. Even though I don't have a social life, I rather study on the weekend because no one owes you shit.

Python tutor is a great resource to see your code execute as you type along. It just throws stuff into the console, very useful.

Then you don't have real friends.

Obviously your own kids are more important to you than anyone else's, but a friend cares deeply about your family and the things that are important to you.

Otherwise, they're just an acquaintance.

My friends care about my wife so much that they keep her company at my house when I'm away. OP get yourself good friends who will do that for you.

fair, but that also means most people only have like 3-5 true friends by your definition.

Laying on the couch playing video games, going to the gym, doing laundry, doing dishes, cooking food for the week, etc.

I'll golf, play adult league sports, go to dinner with my fiancee or out for drinks with my buddies, from time to time, but man - the week is busy enough. On the weekends I chill and get my life in order.

Actually lol'd. Interensting conversations? Objectively interesting?

Are you telling me you bond with people because they too have been scuba diving, albeit in the kiddies pool at the Four Seasons?

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

100%. I'll be packing up my gear and people stop by to ask if we saw anything interesting. Have grabbed drinks a few times with some people that stopped.

My roommate went on a date with a park ranger that stopped us for not having a dive flag.

I met the president of a young professionals group in my city through a dive club that I'm a part of.

That's not even counting the countless interactions at the Four Seasons!

Don't @ me

I'm trying to stay over the weekends where my client is located in the Bay Area - I want to scratch off most of NorCal this year. So far my favorite explorations have been Redwoods by Eureka, Mt Shasta, and Lassen.

Definitely want to pick up shooting again, although California makes it difficult. Archery is on the radar but unfortunately near my home there aren't many of those ranges to practice.

Assuming I can get back in shape like in college, I would love to play rugby again.

Dating. It gives you something (and if you're lucky, someone) to do. Great for making new friends (several girls I've dated have become platonic friends later), and you can use it to go out and try new things i.e take your date to the theatre, a concert, opera, comedy, etc. It's the best thing ever, and in these days of dating apps, being incompetent at talking to the opposite gender in person is no longer such a hindrance.
