What do you do with swag from previous funds?
Moving from one PE fund to another and I have a bunch of stuff from my previous shop (deal toys, vests, etc.).
What are your thoughts on having this stuff around the new office? My instinct says that the clothing is a no-go since they’re technically a competitor (though I feel like stuff from banking is probably ok since it’s a service provider rather than a competitor, but it still feels weird since it isn’t your current employer).
What about deal toys? Is it ok to have these on your desk as a personal accomplishment?
Wear it?
Not to a client meeting?
I tossed everything when I lateralled, mainly just because idgaf about the corp swag or the deal toys. Probably wouldn't wear it around just to be safe but probably very dependent on culture and how close a competitor.
Deal toys are okay to keep if you have any attachment to them. I wouldn't wear the clothing though. At best, people will find it weird but not say anything.
Give it to me so I can walk around my non target school flex-ocuting every peasant that comes within a 5 foot radius of me.
I mean I wouldn’t wear a KKR vest at TPG if TPG themself makes the same vests but if you have like a nice umbrella or raincoat or something it really isn’t a big deal.
Sell them to me, I'll cop them from you
Leave deal toys from other companies at home unless you're the partner that actually led the deal
Not a big deal to have deal toys from old firms around, all the partners at my firm had deal toys from 15+ years ago, when they were analysts/associates/VP in IB/PE. In fact it was pretty cool to see.
