What do you say in a follow up email?

I've had some informational phone calls with some analysts and I want to know what I should say in a follow up email and when I should send a follow up email. Also one of them is a first year analyst at a BB, so should I try to maintain the relationship or look for more senior bankers who will have more time ?

These questions have been answered a million times, use the search function. Generally, you should follow-up when you have something legitimate to say, like asking for advice/upcoming weekend trip and so on. Don't pester people with constant emails. You should obviously maintain the relationship with the analyst, but asking for referrals to more senior people never hurts, as long as you've made a good impression.

To infinity... and beyond!

Good that you're reaching out, but you should send a thank you email after phone calls. Follow up with coffee chats or questions you may have as you go through the process. You should definitely try to maintain the relationship with the first year analyst as well as look for more senior bankers. Add them on LinkedIn and don't be afraid to reach out to them here and there, just not extremely frequently and always be courteous and respectful.

Rule #1: Never ask or hint about a potential job when networking.

You should send an email with a question about a certain topic you think they could answer for you. You've got to have some questions about a certain industry. This achieves your original effort to re-connect with them for another lunch/chat.

Try to phrase it while simultaneously making them believe you view their experience in a high regard without kissing anybody's ass.

ex: "I was wondering about blank and I believe YOUR exp & knowledge with blank could help give me a better grasp of this particular question."

Something like that

Here to learn and hopefully pass on some knowledge as well. SB if I helped.

But isn't it kinda obvious to them that I'm emailing them just for the sake of e-mailing? They're probably thinking "This kid doesn't really care about the questions. All he wants is to get me to remember him so I can help him down the road."

Yes you're right they could be thinking that. Even if they are, why do you think people can be very open to meeting? What I'm saying is, networking wouldn't be vital like it is if the people with the power to help you weren't willing in the first place.

wait until after the weekend, shoot him a follow up email on like Wednesday and have it be the same email you sent this week, just with an added line like, "I wanted to follow up with my previous email, I know you mentioned you have been busy so I completely understand...." and then segue into your original email.

"My name's Ralph Cox, and I'm from where ever's not gonna get me hit"
