What does it mean when they respond like this
Let's say you called or got coffee with an analyst, and then after you thank them and tell them you applied to their firm and they respond with okay great or good luck. Does that mean they're not going to push your resume?
It means there isn't a lot they can do, or are willing to do based on one conversation they've had with you. The average analyst's influence in hiring is very limited, so anything more than the response you got would have been overpromising. Don't worry about it.
I thought analysts had the most influence since they're the ones actually deciding who gets a first round?
More than a MD? I would think not...but I guess you never know.
Depends on the firm. For BB analysts can forward it and it won't mean jack sh*t. Whereas if its an EB analysts have more say.
Also it depends on whether or not the analyst is part of the recruiting team.
Either way just assume you didn't impress him enough for him to go out of his way and move on. It happens
Fuck, i thought every analyst from your school was part of the recruiting team lol
What else is he supposed to say?? Even if he did push your resume, he would write good luck, no? as in good luck with interviews?
oh I thought usually analysts say good luck, i will keep a look out for ur resume or something along those lines idk
lol there's no standardized answer, these are human beings who are virtually the same age as you, they all have different approaches. for example if i were an analyst i would never say that because it gives the impression that you're guaranteed an interview when there's still some chance that it could be out of my hands/senior banker doesn't like you/etc.
yeah you're right lol i guess this thread is pointless
All depends on the tone that he used and his body language. Was it more of a Liam Neeson Taken phone call "good luck"? or more of a positive, encouraging "good luck"? did he stifle laughter after you said that you applied? Context, man
