What does "Portfolio Manager" or "Investment Manager" mean?

I found an alumni on Linkedin who is listed as an "Investment Manager" in "Financial Services" for a bulge bracket and then in his Experience section, he also lists "Portfolio Manager." It's in a major city in SE Asia (think Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing) so I'm not sure if that changes anything. But is he just doing personal accounts? Or is this guy most likely handling major companies' accounts?

Thanks for the help!
