What else can I do?

I'm having trouble finding what else I can do to prove to employers that I am capable of working in IB or PE.

Throughout my four years at school I worked two jobs, one part time job at a country club to pay bills (and free golf), and the other were finance related internships. I didn't have the opportunity to afford an elite target school, nor did I know what a target school was when I was 17 wanting to play professional baseball. (that obviously worked out).

I graduated from a non-target school this May, and I did my first IB Internship last summer unpaid to prove that I can do well. I got invited back for a brief 5-week "Winter" internship over Christmas break which was also unpaid. During my final senior spring semester I was in talks to hopefully receive an offer and then covid came crashing down. Every IB or PE position I apply for I get denied. Is this because I don't look good enough on paper? What else can I do to prove that I can do this? I learned how to model from their top analyst, my communication skills are excellent, and I never missed a day nor never skipped a task. The IB is a boutique bank but does VERY well in the hotel & gaming sector, and has highly competitive pay. It has a great culture and I truly want to be there.

Being as I lost the potential opportunity at said IB, I took a temporary Commercial real estate analyst position doing underwriting, building decks, and originating deals.

What do you guys recommend I do to get noticed? What more will it take to prove I am capable of doing this?

Thanks,

Non-Target Analyst:
No, I am now graduated and working at a CRE firm full time.

May start studying to take the SIE soon to help add a bit more credential to my resume.

May not be the best opt but perhaps dive into Big 4 accounting then try to lateral your way into IB?

As a semi-target college kid, I get really depressed/nervous seeing threads like these.

Hey man just do everything you possibly can to stand out. As depressing as my post is, I am genuinely staying very optimistic. It will feel so much more rewarding when I finally do get that position.

Do what you can to keep a great GPA, don't burn bridges, and stay positive. Best of luck to you brotha.

Probably get in some good work experience, kill the GMAT and go to a top 10 MBA program.
