What exactly is KPMG's EVS (Economic valuation services) group, what do they do?
Their website is very very vague on the description of services. It seems to be related to valuation services for financial reporting and tax purposes. I know this isn't related directly to investment banking but my company has a director from this group (6 years in this group) and claims to understand investment banking practices/modeling/valuations related to sell side transactions. What do they exactly do that would be related to investment banking or even corporate development (buy/sell side M&A)?
I've been working with this gent and feel like I am constantly training him. I have learned very little from him, as its more expected given he is more senior than me. Not trying to be condescending, only reason I am asking is to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he's not the best mentor and does have some tangible skills. I just don't see it after I had to walk him through how to do a EV Calc and valuation concepts. So what exactly do these people do and how does it relate to M&A? Anyone have experience with it, there is very little out there. Do they just do basic dcf/comps for companies at YE to report the valuation of their business units in order for good will/impairment?
