What GPA is needed?

I am a current junior at a top 20 university (i.e. Michigan, UVA, ND). I currently have a 3.5, but the classes I took this past semester and upcoming spring semester are hard as fuck. Honestly, I'm not the smartest school-wise, so I'm expecting the 3.5 to drop to a 3.4 range.

I am interning at a BB in S&T - prob will focus on Equity sales and will most likely work there FT after. How much will my 3.4 range GPA hurt in getting into a top business school? Can connections from mentors at the bank and stuff help?

From what I know about MBA admissions (reading Poets and Quants, HBS Guru, etc), a 3.5 is a good GPA, but it is nothing stellar to top MBA programs. Take it with a grain of salt, but top MBA programs put a lot of emphasis on GPA as they don't want their average to be lowered. I would say with a 3.7 you would be safe from a ding anywhere, as the average at HBS is 3.71 and Stanford is 3.74.

I would say you would be a strong candidate at the lower end of the M7. Although if you have some very unique part of your application, a 3.5 can be "winked" at by the admissions committees.
