What happens between "announcement" and "closing"?
What are investment bankers up to between the announcement and closing of a deal? Is there still a lot of work to be done?

among other things...if the deal involves debt for financing, and the bank is not using its own balance sheet to lend to the buyer...then the capital markets team will do a road-show with the bankers to find buyers for the bonds...and that takes time for lower credit quality companies. Sometimes there are regulatory issues that need to be worked out...sometimes there are other firms that want to get into a bidding war for the aquired company...lots of stuff to do for some deals...in addition to negotiating on a price and specific terms...
