What happens if your last name doesn't "match" the race/ethnicity you claim you are?
Bankers/HR who review applications for diversity events or diversity-focused programs (e.g. sophomore internships): do you get suspicious when an applicant's last name doesn't match the race/ethnicity he or she claims on the app? For example, if male with a white or Asian sounding last name (like Smith or Lee) applied to a diversity-only event, but put that he was Hispanic, would you accept it as true or toss out his app?
I am diversity with a white last name and only made it into like one process. Assuming the last name kinda fucked me ngl
Are white names all that distinguishable from black ones? Figure you’d be given the benefit of the doubt unless it was pretty Jewish-sounding (not a lot of black Goldsteins, for example).

Example: An Asian or Black kid gets adopted by a White family and gets a White last name.
Would diversity programs still apply for this kid? In my opinion, yes.

When you look at the UK as an example, the Black British can have very White sounding names. That doesn't change the fact that they are black and might qualify for a diversity program.
I think there will be problems if, say, a Chinese looking person would apply for an African-American diversity program. Or a White, blonde blue eyed person would do the same. It would look a bit... weird
But I have to admit I don't know exactly what questions the sponsors will ask or how someone would qualify.
