What is more valuable to learn - Bonds or Stocks?
Currently, I am a undergraduate student at a semi-target school on the east coast. I've been given the opportunity to be apart of a selective student investment team, where we will be trained on managing either Fixed-Income or Equity securities.
I am having difficulty choosing which team I would learn under. I know the basics of equities, but have no clue about bonds.
My questions are:
- What are the benefits of learning each? Does one help more than the other?
- If my goal is to own my own business one day, will knowledge about equities help more than bonds, etc.
Please let me know what you all think!
Happy Holidays :)
My finance classes always started with bonds (fixed income), because it's the simpler way to learn about time value of money and incorporate it into valuation. You also get to see more direct impacts of key economic drivers like inflation and interest.
bonds, hands down
