What is PTO?
Was reviewing my offer letter and it says I have 15 days PTO.
What does PTO mean? Does that mean that I have 3 weeks vacation / year? Is it implied that I won't be able to take vacation as an analyst?
Sorry for the rudimentary question, but genuinely curious.
PTO = paid time off, so yes, vacation time.
Depends on firm culture, but in general you should be able to take this time (although I doubt in large chunks). Many people use it to take long weekends (or extend a long weekend) and around holidays to spend time with family. You should definitely try to use it for your own sanity.
thanks for the info - was surprised to see PTO as high as it was
That is pretty standard, most places will be 3-4 weeks starting out (3 is standard in finance) and grow to 5-6 as you become more senior (6 being more rare). As you noted, it isn’t very easy to take time early on, but there are times when things are slower (holidays are usually a good time) when taking vacation is easier.
I've heard people on "vacation" still being on call basically and taking their laptops with them to work throughout the day, is that true?
