What is structured products trading?
I was wondering what structured products trading in equities would be? What sort of products are these? Are they illiquid or liquid? Where does the demand come from?

.
usually this is a either package of options (like straddles and collars) or a swap based on a package of underlyings...kindof like a custom delta-1 tradable index, often for products where there is no direct market for the exact structure they want...maybe options on a stock that does not have options. If a customer has a view on a stock (or a group of stocks) it is often easier for them to have a bank build them a custom structured product, rather than trying to create the package themselves with existing securities in the market. So you need to know how to create options when none previously exist.
So, how is it different from Equity Derivatives desks?
