What it takes ? Imposter Syndrome
I am an undergraduate student at a target with a shitty GPA. The student body and career centres say consulting or banking is the way to go. Which ultimately leads sometimes to PE.
I would say I am of average IQ but above average in EQ (good with people). I just feel so behind everyone else, modeling level, don't have a IBD or PE internship lined up.
For those of you on this forum who actually have worked in the field. What does it take? Skills, personalities, IQ, EQ, selling ability, financial modelling..... ?
What do you need to succeed in PE.
Any insight is appreciated.
Honestly, above all, from my personal experience, and from talking to peers/mentors:
It's a mixture of ambition and hustle. You just have to want to succeed. The people who perform the best are the ones that have chips on their shoulders
Agree, need a mix of IQ + EQ + luck.
I went to a target with a mediocre GPA. What year are you, you might still have time to catch up.
It takes hard work, hustle, and luck, you only need 1 shot to hit. And once you're in you bust your ass to make it count. First in/last out, be personable, always have a good attitude - you'd be surprised how many people don't have these qualities, at least in the junior ranks.
