What kind of art do you like?

So I'm definitely far from the most artistic or art loving person in the world... but when I go into the MOMA, most of the shit confuses me. A line on a giant canvas does not make something deep -- it means it sucks IMHO.

What kind of art do you guys like? What do you guys own?

http://www.dasic.blogspot.com/ AMAZING graffiti artist from Chile. had him make the bull for me :D

http://www.ibraheemyoussef.com/ Got the pulp fiction and reservoir dogs prints from him.

Dang, those are great. I actually appreciate photography more than most art. That's not to say I dislike paintings, etc. but I think capturing the beauty of something that was created by another artist, or in the case of cityscapes and the like, many artists. In the same vein as above, but more nature oriented...

Also, from a 'painting' standpoint I do like Steve Penley a lot....

As far as other artists go, I can look at their work and understand what would be compelling about it to another person, but for the most part I don't find them overwhelmingly awesome, like some others do. I've always enjoyed various pieces of graffiti as well.

Art does not have to make sense! People look at art and try to make logical connections, but art is much deeper than that, so often making logical connections doesn't work. Hence, even if it seems pointless to you there is some underlying meaning (could be the material, the story behind the creation, or other circumstance).

I personally hate contemporary art, but go see it once in a while just because it messes with my head and challenges me!

Modern art like Dali is pretty good (I hate Picasso though).

However, I still think that art should be about beauty and skill. So my favorite type is impressionism (Monet) because it has no lines just colors turning into recognizable to the eye objects.

subscribed... sorry, not gonna bookmark because I never check it and a lot of this stuff is great. I'll try to find some stuff in a bit so I can add to this discussion.

Avant Garde, Classic, Modern abstractions, Ancient cave paintings.....all art fascinates me. It's a window into the mind of the culture that created it, it's a way to learn, and it's just cool. Some art isn't too interesting in and of itself, so knowing the full story is an important part of the experience. Some art is just cool to look at, regardless of the story.

I like all meduims: music (ESPECIALLY MUSIC) visual arts theatre / film sculpture architecture literature

Growing up I was a strictly non-fiction type person, but somewhere over the last decade I've aquired a taste for culture.
