what kind of jobs...
Hey guys,
What types of jobs (positions) do temp agencies in NYC that specialize in Finance/I-Banking generally tend to assign to entry-level applicants? (I need the exp. so I'm thinking about it)
Also, Which jobs(positions) are in the back office, middle office, and the front office?
Thanks!
I've been put thru the ringer with these guys. I want to get into an analyst position, but all they set me up with are admin interviews. They seem to have good contacts with companies, but unless you have the experience in the area you want to get into, I've found it hard. Me being a young female may also play into the admin situation. All in all, I would skip the recruiters to break in unless you have the experience. Focus more on contacting individual companies.
Wow, that really sucks. Hopefully, me being a male, and seeing that most banks are stereotypical, I don't think that they'll put me in an admin position.. but with these people you just never know. I've contacted individual companies, but to no avail.
I heard that, other than admin positions, they place people in other back office/middle office positions. Anyone know what those positions are?
Ok, since no one really knows the answer to that question, or maybe there are just too many positions to list, let me pose another one.
Can anyone suggest the best method or career path to move from a back office position eventually towards a front office position (in M&A or PE), and approximately how long would it take?
Thanks.
What a dumb question. RM and Operations has different skillset/job roles than I-banking or PE. You certainly won't get an analyst's job, and most analysts are eventually released to get their MBA first.
You could try getting a janitor's job at goldman, I'm sure you can drop your resumes there faster, too...
in reality it's completely not worth doing. heard of horror stories where smart alecks tried to do that and ended up in operations for 7,8 years. Most quit and try to do what every other desperate kiddo tries to do: LSATS and another bogus JD.
Stony Brook University major in economics? Good luck man........you do realize that you'll probably not land an operations job either?
Is it true that once you do operations, nothing will enable to land a front office position? Not even a MBA from a good school?
It's funny to read this cuz I'm taking the LSAT this Monday...lol. Although I've got just over a year wk. experience and want to see how I do.
hmm, I don't think I wrote that.
Operations is not a good place to be unless you actually like it there. And MBA always solves these things though.
Well guys, thanks for all your help, and words of encouragement (if that's what you want to call it). I got a call from HR last week and I finally got into the IBD at a BB (I don't know how... haha). It was a quick process too; first interview Thurs, Second on Mon, got an offer on Friday. I guess determination really pays off.. ;)
