What major/minor/certificates to pursue for finance related role?

Hello all. I am a first-year student majoring in Industrial Engineering (Concentration in Economic and Financial Systems) at a non-target school, which happens to be ranked very highly in IE. I am trying to figure out a solid degree plan for when I will be applying to finance jobs in the future. The goal is IB/PE/VC in a quant role, such as a Quantitative Researcher. I'm also open to the possibility of starting a career in Management Consulting or Tech, but I don't know much about those fields.

I would like to ask for your help in choosing which degrees to best break into this quant field. I've broken it down into a few options:

  • IE with CS minor

  • IE with Econ minor

  • IE with Econ double major

  • IE with double minor in Econ and Computer Science (which I'm not even sure is possible)

  • IE with a certificate in Finance

  • IE with Econ minor and certificate in Finance

I am genuinely interested in Econ, but am not sure if a double major is feasible or if a minor would give me enough. The IE program at my school contains a good bit of both CS and Econ, but again, I may want more of both.

Also, keep in mind I am involved with the Investments club at my school and have secured an internship at a VC firm for next year.

What could be a good path to break into these roles and have a solid education in Econ, CS, Statistics, Math, and Finance?

Thanks in advance for your help!
