What makes or breaks a candidate in a final round?
I have a final round with my dream firm and I'm just curious if anyone has any advice or anecdotes regarding final rounds and meeting with hiring manager and how to stand out. Thanks!

Make them like you as a person, first rounds to make sure you weren’t an idiot, final rounds are to make sure they’ll like hanging around you at the office.
Try building rapport with the interviewer by getting slightly more personable. I blew it on the final interview with a top brokerage because I was answering the questions very technically (got it right too) but looking back I should've asked more affable questions like the culture, do they like it there, where do you go to lunch, etc because I found I had trouble connecting with personably felt like a front was still there.
Same. I have a bit of trouble with this too, sometimes it depends on the interviewer some people are just easier to talk with than others.
Yeah that's true. Have you landed an internship/role for after this semester? From my understanding of your other comments you're in college too?

First round is can you actually do the job. Do you have the skills. Second round is to flush out and understand your background more in depth. Third round is do you fit here and do we like you. You can pretty much sum up most interviews in this way.
I totally agree with this. At the end of the day, excelling in this world is about building relationships. Different roles/teams/firms may have slightly different preferences as to what they're looking for in a candidate regarding "fit". It's not something you can control or go out of your way to 'impress', so just be yourself I suppose. Cliched, I know.
My best advice is to just be yourself. If you’re genuinely a good fit in the shop it’ll work out. A little trick I’ve learned (I always get super nervous for interviews) is to try and trick yourself that you’re psyched foe the interview. If you come in with energy, confidence and a smile I’ve always found it a lot easier to connect with the hiring team which leads to a more conversational chat. Good luck!!
This is good advice. I do the same thing when I'm going into an important meeting or about to pitch a large deal to investment committee. Heart starts racing, stomach in a knot. take a few deep breaths and convince yourself that you're not nervous, just really excited.
For the interview, keep your answers short and sweet. don't ramble, and try to humanize your self with a punch line at the end of one of your answers. Ask open ended questions that can potentially turn into a conversation.
Was in your shoes a couple of months ago. Next to knowing my technicals, having some questions ready and just trying to come across as a motivated and likeable person, I read through the bank's outlook for 2021 (report from their AM division). Luck would have it but the MD asked me about my view about 2021 and safe to say that I nailed it thanks to my prep reading. Good luck!
