What Next?
Hello there. I wanted to throw my first quick post on here to see if anyone has advice on where I should be pointing my nose in terms of a career. I'm currently employed at the investment advisory arm of a super regional bank (super regional in that it has been swallowing up other regional banks). I just started (recently passed my Series 7 and 66) and I'm essentially just an agency/ execution trader right now until they place me in the advisory role in a few months. I'm trying to figure out what my next step should be. The paths that most of my co- workers seem to be taking are continuing into the WM field, management chain, or some form of compliance to acquire a principals license. Being an advisor is a sales job 90% of the time and I'd really like to get into portfolio management or trading of some kind i.e.. something strategic on the buy side although I hear of guys building a healthy book of advisory business and pulling down a respectable sum each year, or shooting off on their own and building a book that almost runs on autopilot after some years of grinding away. Considering shooting for a CFA certification to bolster the resume. Anyone have any helpful insight?
