What should I be doing in college?
Hello everyone.
I am a recent admit to NYU Stern's undergraduate school. Although my interests might change in the future, I am currently interested in going into investment banking as a future career. I have a few questions as know less about this industry than almost everyone here, since all of you have considerable experience. I hope you can offer your guidance as I transition to a new phase in my education.
-
When choosing my courses, should I opt for the path of least resistance and get the best GPA as possible or should I choose a more difficult schedule? Which would future employers look at the most, GPA or rigor?
-
I am interested in joining a fraternity, although I am torn between whether or not I should attempt to join a business fraternity or a social one? For NYU specifically, which fraternities should I take a look at?
-
What extra curricular experiences are employers looking for, leadership, club-wise and job experience wise? Which is the most optimal combination? On this note, what kind of clubs or internships should I be aiming for?
-
I've heard the work networking being used a lot, however I do not exactly knows what this process entails, and seeing as NYU doesn't have a real campus, how could I achieve this efficiently.
-
Would a minor in computer science be preferable over a minor in statistics or applied math? Or vice versa?
-
I was wondering if I should look to transfer to a school like Cornell's AEM or Columbia later on. I love NYU however I have not seen many positive opinions of Stern in this forum.
I am sorry if I sound like a tool, but these are some of my pressing questions that I feel like this forum would be able to best answer.
Thank you for your time.
