What should I say in response?

I emailed this one Associate, and I asked for an informational interview. He responded saying that he can't talk, and I should look at the careers website of his firm.

What should my approach be with him now?

I would respond nicely thanking him for his email, and explaining why you reached out to him as opposed to career website (if you can think of something clever and short). You shouldn't expect another response, but who knows, maybe he'll feel bad...

Don't do this - it just shows you can't take a hint. A very douchy, useless hint, but a hint nonetheless

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting for him to continue pushing. Was more like "Okay, thank you. Was hoping to speak with someone directly, but I will check the career site, etc etc".

Either way, who cares if "it just shows you can't take a hint". How could that possibly hurt him? The guy already basically gave him a big F U. He was not helping him or referring him to anything but the career site.

But yeah, maybe I misunderstood what you meant by "informational interview". I assumed you meant just speaking with him about his role, etc.

Agree with above. Either don't email him back, or say something along the lines of "I understand, thanks for the reply." ie, keeping the connection potentially open for the future. But yeah, don't ask for anything else, and I think you are better off in the future asking for a simple chat or coffee get-together rather than an Informational Interview.
