What should you do when company says they are not hiring?
I emailed a couple boutiques and most of them say they are not hiring. I am volunteering to work for free, should I keep bugging them? Or just move on?
Thanks

they are effectively saying they will not hire YOU. Every firm is open to making opportunistic hires and will look at guys they deem to be good (although this applies mostly to more senior levels).
Move on.
I spoke to an MD who said they really weren't hiring, even opportunistically. This was for an analyst position though. They did like me enough to send my resume around to friends in the industry. I guess if they are not willing to help you at all then they don't want to hire you.
