TV Shows
For those who have the time...what are some of your favorites?
Also, are there programs out there that have to deal with Wall Street/Finance Industry...other than CNBC.
Shows like Wall Street Warriors...which is sadly 6 episodes in length.
Prison Break
How I Met Your Mother
30 Rock
The Office
are my top choices.
Nip/Tuck Entourage Curb
My girlfriend makes me watch Beauty and the Geek with her. Actually, I end up just plugging away on the laptop during the show, but its not as bad as some of the others out there. I basically watch entourage and espn with an occassional office.
Flight of the Concords Curb Your Enthusiasm The Office (although I wish the BBC version still ran) 30 Rock Lost (kind of embarrassed to admit that one) Sportcenter
Wow.. that's my lineup minus Lost.
I'm also a Human Giant fan. You should check out season 1 on DVD.
TV has started letting me down lately. Used to be big on HBO (Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love, the Wire, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, Curb Your Enthusiasm) plus a couple mainstream classics (Heroes, Lost, 24).
I feel like I rarely watch HBO now. For me, the last season of Entourage really sucked, Drama and Ari are the only intriguing characters for me now, E & Vince just piss me off and Turtle is useless. Was not a fan of any of the new shows (Tell Me You Love Me, In Treatment, John from Cincinnati). Really felt like they were trying too hard. Looking forward to Big Love, Entourage, and Conchords coming back though and I'm liking their new miniseries format.
The last season of Heroes was terrible, stopped watching 24 some time ago, and Lost really lost its luster in season 3 for me although this season has gotten pretty interesting.
Honestly, most interesting thing on TV for me now is soccer, EPL having probably one of their most intense seasons ever and big Champions League matchups coming up
House Hunters Medium Scrubs Law and Order: SVU
English Premier League and the Spanish leagues (for soccer) are big on my tv. Especially with the champions league coming up
Jericho Big Brother 9 Paradise Hotel 2 Kenny vs. Spenny (funniest show of all time, period)
24 (first 3 seasons, way downhill after that) nip/tuck dexter scrubs seinfeld curb six feet under sopranos entourage
.
Entourage Lost Any trashing reality shows on MTV, VH1, E, Bravo (these shows are on constant re-run, you never have to see the prior episode, and require no thinking to watch)
I started watching Dexter, its kind of a creepy show (about a homicide cop who also enjoys killing people, all of which are bad people anyway). Regardless its pretty entertaining
Currently Active Series Weeds Heroes Aqua Teen Hunger Force Robot Chicken The Boondocks Reaper Chuck Burn Notice Scrubs South Park Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil Daily Show/Colbert Report
Syndication: New Yankee Workshop/This Old House (Both shows are essentially the same after you've seen about 40-50 eps of each. I grew up watching this stuff for some odd reason. Norm Abrham + Bob Villa = the Builder's Dream Team). The Simpsons Futurama Star Trek: The Next Generation/Deep Space Nine Law and Order/SVU (You've seen 10 episodes, you've seen 'em all) Futurama
Other than the Office and maybe Lost, tv has gone downhill recently.
Dexter, Seinfield, and Arrested Development were/are the greatest shows on television. Entourage season 3 was pathetic.
That's why there's DVD... so I can watch AD any time I want to...
THE WIRE: simply the best TV Ive ever watched, bar none. Im lost at its retirement from HBO. FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS: not for everyone, but holy crap i think this comedy is fkg brilliant! DEXTER: great program I picked up on a Showtime trial, something in it lost on network TV. DAMAGES: on FX. very good pilot season, be interesting to see if season 2 lives up to it. LOST: willing to admit that subsequent seasons have deteriorated in quality. im hooked tho. LIFE: the only new show i enjoyed watching on network TV (not that there arent other goodies) HEROES: i admit it. thot the 1st season was awesome. disappointing 2nd season tho. BREAKING BAD: on AMC. picked this up the other week. has good promise from what ive seen.
as a side note...does anyone else think FX has the best shows on basic cable? I mean...its got The Shield, Nip/Tuck, The Riches, Damages, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rescue Me, etc and it usually has on pretty good, fairly recent movies as well. Not that i watch all of these shows regularly, but from what i have seen there, network TV is second rate. Just something Ive been wondering...
Arrested Development The Office 24 (barring season 6...) Heroes Death Note 30 Rock Metalocalypse Firefly It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Hated Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David's portrayal is so incredibly grating what with his incessant bitching and moaning.
FX: Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, The Shield NBC: Earl, The Office HBO: Curb, Big Love Showtime: Californication AMC: Mad Men VH1: Rock of Love
via NetFlix watching old Sopranos, every L&O under the sun, The Wire
I like TV and my DVR is my lifeline.
Only show I watch is LOST. Not too interested in TV anymore, rather play videogames.
South Park Entourage Breaking Bad
WOW!!! Not a single American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, which are 1 and 2 respectively i believe. Thats just funny.
Prison Break Lost
Those are the only 2 i watch religiouly, then probably Mad Money/Fast Money which i will tend to work out watching.
I agree with The Wire- best show ever. Other good ones are The Office, 24, The Shield, Entourage, King of Queens
Arrested Development and Boston Legal.
I have to agree with many of the above post. Arrested Development too. God, that show made my life in so many ways.
Nip/Tuck Californication SportsCenter
Been trying to read more these days..
Forgot Heroes.
ANyone have educational/money purpose shows...like I mentioned, Wall Street Survivor?
CNBC doesnt count
forgot californication, awesome..duchovony is brilliant
i started watching the canadian show "traders" on dvd (Amazon has it). pretty entertaining with some education but cant get myself to watch it with the following shows in queue:
Dex season 2 the wire seasons 1-4 lost season 2 scrubs seasons 1-6 (always watched it here and there, obsessed recently, picked up all seasons)
any opinions on rome? a few friends of mine keep telling me its a must see..
Dexter is awesome
My favorite tv shows, with which i always like to entertain myself and i always looks excited to watch their latest episodes are : Friends Glee House Criminal minds Vampire Diaries Smallville Gossip girl Doctor who
When was the last time you saw a new episode of Friends?
Watch Archer. Archer is great, although some of their season 2 episodes have been not too great. When they put out a good episode though, it's reeeeally good.
My lineup in sum: Archer Community The Office (going downhill) How I Met Your Mother (going faster downhill) American Dad! (leaps and bounds better than FamGuy these days) South Park Futurama
That's just for currently playing TV shows...
Breaking Bad.
Sons of Anarchy - Mindblowing
The Wire - As said before, best show ever Trailer Park Boys - I'm assuming you Americans haven't heard of it but it's the biggest shitshow to watch for regimented Wall Street types
Kenny vs. Spenny Iron Chef America - That shit just amps you up for dinner.
Dexter Sons of Anarchy Rescue Me How to Make it in America The Apprentice(UK with Alan Sugar)
Lights out is a new one that caught my eye, so far, pretty good.
your favorite market shows on tv (Originally Posted: 08/09/2010)
what are your favorite tv shows following the markets and what times are they on?
Anything on CNBC with Mandy on it.
I LOVE blondes lol
PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer. Obviously doesn't follow the markets exclusively, but its the only news program on television that I will choose to watch.
Sqawk and any show with Brennan on it.
Squawk and Street signs
strategy sesh...
Bloomberg TV. Any time you watch it is fine.
True, CNBC can be hit or miss. Squawk is good, so is Strategy Session.
Anyone see Erin today on Street signs? drools
Haha this is the one area where CNBC beats Bloomberg TV... the female anchors - Bartiromo are much more attractive on CNBC than on Bloomberg
watch mtv
on weekday mornings, Snooki cleanly and crisply presents morning news as it happens right before the starting bell. a master interviewer, she has interviewed the likes of warren buffett, jack welch and elizabeth warren just in the past year
in the afternoons, watch "Taking Stock" with The Situation. He interviews star fund managers from all around the world to keep in in the know about what to buy and what to sell in the global equity markets
and the evenings, put your feet up as veteran DJ Pauly D engages with the greatest minds in the world, from economists to athletes, in casual yet intimate one-on-one conversations
but do watch in the loop with betty liu. 8-10 on bloomberg. love it. she's pretty smart
Squawk's pretty good at 4AM on my coast. I like their line-ups - actually bring in some smart people once in a while.
TV Series Favorites (Originally Posted: 07/14/2012)
My personal favorites:
Entourage South Park Mad Men Game of Throne Breaking Bad
Need to watch some more stuff. Any recommendations?
Seinfeld, The Office.
Both of them get waaaaayyyyy better around the end of season 1/beginning of season 2, so give it a chance. I've seen each episode of each series probably an average of 8 times each.
You wont be disappointed.
--Art Vandelay (a character you will become familiar with in Seinfeld)
watch suits. just make sure you watch it online or DVR because there are way too many commercials.
Seinfeld is essential. Probably the only show I can just leave on and be amused while I do other things. Plus there are so many episodes!
The humor may not be for everyone, but I am personally a huge fan of Arrested Development. Gob and Tobias, especially Tobias, might be my favorite characters on a TV show ever.
I saw a few episodes of Entourage and I think there is potential there.
The Office
Game of thrones is legit, some others that are decent are Justified and How I met your morther is decent with NPH
Art Vandelay, the famed architect! He's been on the show longer than Kramer or Elaine.
I find it hard to follow TV these days. I think we've reached a point where ideas for shows have pretty much run their course. Then a fad like vampires or fat lawyers catches fire for a couple of years, and then when the music stops, we look back and wonder how silly we were to waste our time with such stupid shows.
Glad to meet a fan. And glad to see I'm not alone in loving Seinfeld.
The Office is my favorite show, but Seinfeld has better rewatchability, and is a very, very close second.
--Art Vandelay, Architect, Importer/Exporter, Judge
Seinfeld curb your enthusiasm battlestar Whitest kids you know
suits 30 rock white collar
Shark Tank and House of Lies are the latest that I have watched.
Friends, 24, Prison Break, Arrested Development (new season on nflx), Entourage, It's Always Sunny
Is there a new season out??
Curb
Suits and House of Lies are the shows I'm currently following (besides the things that men don't care about, i.e. melodramatic performance-related shows like SYTYCD and guilty pleasures like Gossip Girl, which people only watch to see Leighton and Ed get it on anyways).
The New Girl with Zooey Deschanel
I'd watch Zooey Deschanel watching paint dry. That chick drives me wild.
The Walking Dead My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Person of Interest.
White Collar.
Old guilty pleasures: The OC and One Tree Hill.
Current:
Mad Men Game of Thrones Californication True Blood Community Luther House of Lies
Guilty Pleasures:
Girls Awkward 90210
Old Favorites:
Entourage The Wire That '70s Show Freaks and Geeks The OC Skins (Seasons 1-4)
Man kids nowadays really need to watch some real tv shows. I can't believe the two greatest shows on tv haven't been mentioned yet
The Wire Sopranos
Both require heavy investment in terms of time but so worth it. I watched breaking bad but it's just not on par with the two shows (depending on what happens in fifth season but its not close currently).
Currently on tv Sherlock is awesome. Better than the fake American Sherlock POS. been wanting to check out downtown abbey.
The Wire and The West Wing are all-time favourites, Band of Brothers was amazing too although more of a mini-series.
Recent highlights include Suits and The League
Anyone watch that bachelor spoof on yahoo, Burning Love? Funny as heck
Justified too.
Jersey Shore
Entourage and thats it!
My intern is strictly referred to as Darren.
If you enjoy South Park, then be sure to check out Archer. Far better and wittier in my opinion, especially since SP has kind of gotten stale.
As for dramas, you can't beat Friday Night Lights.
Also a fan of 24 and Suits.
How I Met Your Mother, but honestly I really watch that show for NPH...

What Shows Do Bankers Typically Watch? (Originally Posted: 12/11/2010)
I'm just curious, what shows tend to be popular among bankers? These days, I basically only watch How I Met Your Mother and I was wondering what shows you guys tune into/download whenever you get the chance or what ones I should check out (regardless of whether or not bankers like them, although I'm curious as to what bankers find entertaining amid the sea of reality TV nowadays)
are you kidding?
ESPN is the only channel on my TV
30 rock
Mad Men Entourage How To Make It In America Flight of the Conchords How I Met Your Mother The Office Community cough Gossip Girl cough
I've been told I should start watching Dexter as well.
don't forget glee or big bang
Squawk Box Entourage Sons of Anarchy The League Sportscenter
How I met your mother? Really?
GLEE
Sports aside,
Dexter Lie to Me Burn Notice Sons of Anarchy Boardwalk Empire (every episode is like a movie)
Comedy/Comedy-Drama: It's Always Sunny, The League, Entourage, Bored to Death, Californication, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Modern Family (how has nobody mentioned this yet!?!?) Parenthood (yea a little feminine I know but still a quality show) Californication Sons of Anarchy Boardwalk Empire How to make it in America (whenever it comes back) Entourage (on occasion) Anything on ESPN Two and a Half Men
Love this show...it's so damn cliched and sappy but I love it.
Sopranos The Wire Boardwalk Empire Entourage 60 Minutes Mad men Charlie Rose Next 48 Hours
Mad Men Entourage
Only ESPN these days.
Glee is garbage these days...
why? bc they actually sing good songs?
Breaking Bad
I hope bankers watch It's Always Sunny because the show is legit
charlie: any number of sperms could've swam up there and eaten the egg
mac: sperms don't eat the egg
charlie: it doesn't eat the egg and become strong and become a baby? [flexes]
Jersey Shore
Come at me bro
ESPN/Sports Jersey Shore Pawn Stars The Universe How Its Made Country Fried Stings COPS Millionaire matchmaker
mad men sopranos entourage rome
then you have to throw in a few trashy shows too... so you can turn your brain off after a 5 hour modeling session: (1) big bang theory (2) modern family (3) jersey shore
This is just a small list of what my DVR currently has the following series on record: Chuck House The Event Lie to Me Human Target Running Wilde The Big Bang Theory Community Modern Family Burn Notice The League The Walking Dead Boardwalk Empire Mad Men Dexter Californication The Simpsons
the new Hawaii 50 Nikita The Event
back when they were on air 24 The Unit
of course Bleach =)
Burn Notice Lie To Me The Human Target (it's pretty bullshit to be honest) Entourage/Californication are queued up for later Chuck/Warehouse 13 - haven't watched latest season, seemed wack but still queued The Walking Dead was brilliant
The League - check it out, semi-unscripted show centered around a pack of bros
And of course sports.
Awesome TV Shows (Originally Posted: 07/22/2013)
Let's discuss what shows we're watching right now.
I just finished Breaking Bad and Walking Dead. Looking for a couple of new ones.
Dexter, The White Queen, True Blood, Magic City playing now.
These are the shows I watch that are currently still running:
The Walking Dead Shameless Californication Suits Game of Thrones House of Lies The League Vikings Boardwalk Empire Dexter Homeland The Borgias Da Vinci's Demons The White Queen Magic City True Blood
Arrested Development
Gene Parmesan is my favorite character.
Best show on TV right now is Elementary, a modern take on Sherlock Holmes. Very very well done. New season starts in two months so you still have time to get caught up.
Game of Thrones...the end.
I also recently started watching House of Cards, the new netflix series. Its pretty good.
THE NEWSROOM
Another Game of Thrones vote here. Complex and captivating story with many different storylines. Oh and nudity, lots of it.
It's Always Sunny was pretty funny, maybe check that out.
The Mighty Boosh!
Party Down
Also - Stella is hilarious
Must Watch: Game of Thrones Homeland Boardwalk Empire House of Cards Band of Brothers (mini series) Arrested Development The Wire It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Should Watch: West Wing Sopranos Curb Your Enthusiasm Spartacus Californication Suits Lost Louis Ck Mad Men Shameless Weeds (Stop when they get to Mexico) Modern Family How I met Your Mother Newsroom
I thought nobody would mention Mad Men. I think it's the best thing to happen to television in a long time.
Another vote for Californication; adopting a Hank Moody perspective has changed my life for the better. Arrested Development is also a great show, as is The Wire.
I'm prone to some douchebag moments, and as such am also a huge fan of Entourage.
ARCHER lol I knew I was forgetting something important. It's off-season now. One of my favorite shows of the past few years, that and Mad Men probably being my top 2.
It looks like we're doing an all-time and current list, so here goes:
Current: -Californication -House of Lies -Ray Donovan -Suits -Game of Thrones -The Newsroom -White Collar -NCIS -Sons of Anarchy -The League
All-time: (not including above shows) -West Wing (this is a must-watch, it's definitely liberal-leaning and naive in many ways, but it is an exceptional show) -Friends -Fresh Prince of Bel-Air -Homicide: Life on the Street -The Wire (only made it through 4 seasons... gotta get on that) -South Park (kinda gotten more meh as I aged, still deserves recognition) -The Shield -Band of Brothers/The Pacific (miniseries') -The Office (fell off, but still loved the 1st ~6-7 seasons)
I also like Royal Pains (not great, but decent/consistent), Graceland (too new to be great, but it will be... maybe), Continuum (great for scifi/post-apoc fix), and Revolution (post-apoc fix).
It's funny how this topic is the only topic that people will answer every time its posted about usually, repeat topics get sent to the search function but never this one.
It's a great reminder when I feel like watching TV
I watched it mostly when I was in middle/high school, so maybe the nostalgia makes it better?
To be fair, I haven't watched it in a couple years...
----------------------------------->
Burn Notice
This is a list of shows that I am watching or have watched in the past (in no particular order):
-Dexter -Archer -Mad Men -Breaking Bad -Suits (just started from season 1 and can't stop) -Seinfeld reruns on TBS
Game of Thrones is overrated to me.
Top Gear (UK)
Just started The Newsroom per your guys' recommendations. Shit's pretty bombay.
yea, shit's pretty mumbai
Game of Thrones Archer The League Mad Men Suits Breaking Bad
Current: Boardwalk Empire Sons of Anarchy South Park Always Sunny in Philadelphia Simpsons Breaking Bad Mad Men
All Time: Sopranos (best show of all time) Seinfeld Rome Band of Brothers Jackass
NOTE: Subject to edit at a later point. On my way out. Also, as you can probably tell, I'm an HBO whore.
Game of Thrones. Simply the best show on television right now, and if you believe otherwise you haven't watched it enough or weren't paying attention.
Also, if you're a reader, the book series it is based off (A Song of Ice and Fire) is fantastic, and this is coming from a guy who never reads for pleasure.
Winter is coming, and the North remembers..
Just started True Blood. I was turned off by the vampire genre, but it's petty good so far. The black chick is really cute. She reminds me of this girl I knew last year.
Holy fuck! I'm likely to die having never impregnated Rachel.
My favorites among the shows that are currently on.
Breaking Bad Game of Thrones Dexter Homeland Suits White Collar Mentalist Americans
I can't believe nobody has yet mentioned Scrubs, easily my all-time favorite (last season excluding).
that feel when you look at WSO in the morning and don't remember posting anything you posted
Check out Strikeback on Cinemax, its like 24 on steroids and alot of sex of course.
I am quite disappointed that not a single other person has mentioned Elementary yet, but not surprised. Reminds me why popular opinion is often so worthless.
I will also add Sherlock (on BBC) to the mix.
Favourite TV Show (Originally Posted: 04/14/2013)
What are your favourite TV shows? I am a big fan of The Big Bang Theory, but no one in the finance community seems to watch this. Big shame as it is intelligently scripted and funny.
at the moment, workaholics
Shameless right now, I'm re-watching the wire
But I do watch, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, House of Lies. Will be starting Game of Thrones soon.
Workaholics
House of Lies
Yeah The Wire is a great show. Have yet to watch Season 4 and 5. Have heard Season 4 is the best one too. Will definitely watch it soon...
I love Homeland - I watched the first two seasons a couple months ago so I can watch Season 3 when it airs in the fall and I breezed through most of the episodes...really addicting.
Just started watching Game of Thrones, which is also great. The Walking Dead is good too. Parks and Rec and Modern Family are probably my two favorite currently running comdedies.
Bates Motel
Whatever that show is where Louie Anderson jumps into a pool
House of Cards, Homeland, Hannibal, The Following, Parks and Recreation, The Wire
House of Cards, Mad Men, The Office, House of Lies
Game of Thrones is really the only show I enjoy watching that's on TV currently, although I also need to give Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire a shot. I used to like Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother but HIMYM fell off in quality a long time ago and Modern isn't as clever as it used to be, although it still has its moments.
The Wire is the GOAT TV show though for sure. It has ruined so many other dramas for me because I always end up comparing those shows to The Wire.
Some posters here have good taste in TV.
Homeland, The Following, Modern Family, Simpsons, and Mad Men
Only really have a few non-miss shows - Suits, The Americans, The League. I catch others like Dexter, Mad Men when I can.
House of Cards was terrific. I like Big Bang but its not must-see. The Following is awful and surprised so many mentioned it.
Awful is a bitch much for The Following I'd say that it is way to unbelievable, so it makes it hard to watch at times.
Modern Family, The Office and Friends.
suits, the wire, house of lies, and two and a half men (with Sheen of course)
Dexter, Breaking Bad, Suits, House of Lies, House, Big Bang Theory
Suits, Person of Interest, Two and a Half Men (with Sheen), How I Met Your Mother
Workaholics, Parks and Rec, The league, Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire
Justified and Curb Your Enthusiasm
The majority of movies and shows now a days require that you suspend belief, so it is not like The Following is unusual for requiring that. You aren't going to enjoy TV and Movies if you don't automatically flip that switch. Unless all you watch are documentaries and the History Channel or something.
pretty much all have been mentioned, but my 64gb sd card on my phone holds every episode of seinfeld and i torrent the latest f1, motogp, and wsbk races.
Mad Men. The Office. Oh.... and re-runs of Seinfeld
House of Cards, Breaking Bad. Big Bang Theory is stale these days
I'm obsessed with The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon Cooper, HAHAHAHA.
Best drama right now is Elementary, hands down (better than Sherlock on BBC in my humble opinion). My favorite episode so far is when they brought in the guy from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as Moriarty's hired assassin.
Suits and Homeland are entertaining as well. I agree with those losing interest in Modern Family, notwithstanding Sofia Vergara (it's not like she's ripping off all her clothes...and she's whiny). I'm starting to get bored of Parks and Rec as well.
Suits and Breaking Bad. That is all.
Homeland, House of Cards, Suits, Mad Men, Entourage (even though no longer airs), Curb Your Enthusiasm.
To the GoT fans: if you have not already, you need to watch the show Vikings. Yes, it is on the history channel, but honestly I like it better than Game of Thrones at this point. You can watch it online too.
The Office, for another couple of weeks that is :( Re-runs of Seinfeld forever and always Modern Family sometimes Big Bang Theory sometimes Just started Game of Thrones, just finished season 1. I love it, and it takes me a lot to get into a non-comedy. Can't wait to catch up to the current season.
I wanted to try it out but kinda figured it would be a "dumbed down" version of GoT with just action and not much substance. Not the case?
Trust me I thought the same thing when I started watching it. I'm always hesitant to try the shows my friends suggest, but Vikings goes hard. Yes the story line is not quite as complex, but it is definitely worth a try.
Mad Men
Mad Men, Homeland and Breaking Bad are all decent.
TV Show Addict: Homeland, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Suits, House of Lies, Californication, Breaking Bad, Shameless, Tudors, Justified, The League, Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, Bates Motel, Walking Dead, Spartacus, The Vikings
You guys really need to check out Californication, The Vikings, older show The Tudors, Spartacus, and Magic City. Noticed these weren't mentioned and are amazing shows.
...think that's it. Some have ended like Spartacus and Tudors
How has no one mentioned Archer?
Used to watch Entourage, now Suits, Big Bang Theory and Top Gear. I heard alot of good things about Game of Thrones though.
The Good Wife is top-quality, as was Friday Night Lights (RIP). I like Mad Men, too, and watched The New Normal for kicks when it was on. Prison Break, True Blood, and Friends are also pretty good.
If you aren't watching "Vikings" on the history channel, Just.fucking.do.it. Seriously, trust me.
