TV Shows

For those who have the time...what are some of your favorites?

Also, are there programs out there that have to deal with Wall Street/Finance Industry...other than CNBC.

Shows like Wall Street Warriors...which is sadly 6 episodes in length.

Prison Break
How I Met Your Mother
30 Rock
The Office

are my top choices.

smuguy97:
Flight of the Concords Curb Your Enthusiasm The Office (although I wish the BBC version still ran) 30 Rock Lost (kind of embarrassed to admit that one) Sportcenter

Wow.. that's my lineup minus Lost.

I'm also a Human Giant fan. You should check out season 1 on DVD.

-------------- Either you sling crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot

TV has started letting me down lately. Used to be big on HBO (Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love, the Wire, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, Curb Your Enthusiasm) plus a couple mainstream classics (Heroes, Lost, 24).

I feel like I rarely watch HBO now. For me, the last season of Entourage really sucked, Drama and Ari are the only intriguing characters for me now, E & Vince just piss me off and Turtle is useless. Was not a fan of any of the new shows (Tell Me You Love Me, In Treatment, John from Cincinnati). Really felt like they were trying too hard. Looking forward to Big Love, Entourage, and Conchords coming back though and I'm liking their new miniseries format.

The last season of Heroes was terrible, stopped watching 24 some time ago, and Lost really lost its luster in season 3 for me although this season has gotten pretty interesting.

Honestly, most interesting thing on TV for me now is soccer, EPL having probably one of their most intense seasons ever and big Champions League matchups coming up

I started watching Dexter, its kind of a creepy show (about a homicide cop who also enjoys killing people, all of which are bad people anyway). Regardless its pretty entertaining

Currently Active Series Weeds Heroes Aqua Teen Hunger Force Robot Chicken The Boondocks Reaper Chuck Burn Notice Scrubs South Park Lewis Black's The Root of All Evil Daily Show/Colbert Report

Syndication: New Yankee Workshop/This Old House (Both shows are essentially the same after you've seen about 40-50 eps of each. I grew up watching this stuff for some odd reason. Norm Abrham + Bob Villa = the Builder's Dream Team). The Simpsons Futurama Star Trek: The Next Generation/Deep Space Nine Law and Order/SVU (You've seen 10 episodes, you've seen 'em all) Futurama

Best Response

THE WIRE: simply the best TV Ive ever watched, bar none. Im lost at its retirement from HBO. FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS: not for everyone, but holy crap i think this comedy is fkg brilliant! DEXTER: great program I picked up on a Showtime trial, something in it lost on network TV. DAMAGES: on FX. very good pilot season, be interesting to see if season 2 lives up to it. LOST: willing to admit that subsequent seasons have deteriorated in quality. im hooked tho. LIFE: the only new show i enjoyed watching on network TV (not that there arent other goodies) HEROES: i admit it. thot the 1st season was awesome. disappointing 2nd season tho. BREAKING BAD: on AMC. picked this up the other week. has good promise from what ive seen.

as a side note...does anyone else think FX has the best shows on basic cable? I mean...its got The Shield, Nip/Tuck, The Riches, Damages, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rescue Me, etc and it usually has on pretty good, fairly recent movies as well. Not that i watch all of these shows regularly, but from what i have seen there, network TV is second rate. Just something Ive been wondering...

Arrested Development The Office 24 (barring season 6...) Heroes Death Note 30 Rock Metalocalypse Firefly It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Hated Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David's portrayal is so incredibly grating what with his incessant bitching and moaning.

FX: Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, The Shield NBC: Earl, The Office HBO: Curb, Big Love Showtime: Californication AMC: Mad Men VH1: Rock of Love

via NetFlix watching old Sopranos, every L&O under the sun, The Wire

I like TV and my DVR is my lifeline.

WOW!!! Not a single American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, which are 1 and 2 respectively i believe. Thats just funny.

Prison Break Lost

Those are the only 2 i watch religiouly, then probably Mad Money/Fast Money which i will tend to work out watching.

"Oh the ladies ever tell you that you look like a fucking optical illusion" - Frank Slaughtery 25th Hour.

forgot californication, awesome..duchovony is brilliant

i started watching the canadian show "traders" on dvd (Amazon has it). pretty entertaining with some education but cant get myself to watch it with the following shows in queue:

Dex season 2 the wire seasons 1-4 lost season 2 scrubs seasons 1-6 (always watched it here and there, obsessed recently, picked up all seasons)

any opinions on rome? a few friends of mine keep telling me its a must see..

Watch Archer. Archer is great, although some of their season 2 episodes have been not too great. When they put out a good episode though, it's reeeeally good.

My lineup in sum: Archer Community The Office (going downhill) How I Met Your Mother (going faster downhill) American Dad! (leaps and bounds better than FamGuy these days) South Park Futurama

That's just for currently playing TV shows...

Sons of Anarchy - Mindblowing

The Wire - As said before, best show ever Trailer Park Boys - I'm assuming you Americans haven't heard of it but it's the biggest shitshow to watch for regimented Wall Street types

Kenny vs. Spenny Iron Chef America - That shit just amps you up for dinner.

Lights out is a new one that caught my eye, so far, pretty good.

watch mtv

on weekday mornings, Snooki cleanly and crisply presents morning news as it happens right before the starting bell. a master interviewer, she has interviewed the likes of warren buffett, jack welch and elizabeth warren just in the past year

in the afternoons, watch "Taking Stock" with The Situation. He interviews star fund managers from all around the world to keep in in the know about what to buy and what to sell in the global equity markets

and the evenings, put your feet up as veteran DJ Pauly D engages with the greatest minds in the world, from economists to athletes, in casual yet intimate one-on-one conversations

Seinfeld, The Office.

Both of them get waaaaayyyyy better around the end of season 1/beginning of season 2, so give it a chance. I've seen each episode of each series probably an average of 8 times each.

You wont be disappointed.

--Art Vandelay (a character you will become familiar with in Seinfeld)

Seinfeld is essential. Probably the only show I can just leave on and be amused while I do other things. Plus there are so many episodes!

The humor may not be for everyone, but I am personally a huge fan of Arrested Development. Gob and Tobias, especially Tobias, might be my favorite characters on a TV show ever.

I saw a few episodes of Entourage and I think there is potential there.

"That dude is so haole, he don't even have any breath left."

Art Vandelay, the famed architect! He's been on the show longer than Kramer or Elaine.

I find it hard to follow TV these days. I think we've reached a point where ideas for shows have pretty much run their course. Then a fad like vampires or fat lawyers catches fire for a couple of years, and then when the music stops, we look back and wonder how silly we were to waste our time with such stupid shows.

wannabeaballer:
Art Vandelay, the famed architect! He's been on the show longer than Kramer or Elaine.

Glad to meet a fan. And glad to see I'm not alone in loving Seinfeld.

The Office is my favorite show, but Seinfeld has better rewatchability, and is a very, very close second.

--Art Vandelay, Architect, Importer/Exporter, Judge

Suits and House of Lies are the shows I'm currently following (besides the things that men don't care about, i.e. melodramatic performance-related shows like SYTYCD and guilty pleasures like Gossip Girl, which people only watch to see Leighton and Ed get it on anyways).

Currently: future neurologist, current psychotherapist Previously: investor relations (top consulting firm), M&A consulting (Big 4), M&A banking (MM)

Man kids nowadays really need to watch some real tv shows. I can't believe the two greatest shows on tv haven't been mentioned yet

The Wire Sopranos

Both require heavy investment in terms of time but so worth it. I watched breaking bad but it's just not on par with the two shows (depending on what happens in fifth season but its not close currently).

Currently on tv Sherlock is awesome. Better than the fake American Sherlock POS. been wanting to check out downtown abbey.

Anyone watch that bachelor spoof on yahoo, Burning Love? Funny as heck

If you enjoy South Park, then be sure to check out Archer. Far better and wittier in my opinion, especially since SP has kind of gotten stale.

As for dramas, you can't beat Friday Night Lights.

Also a fan of 24 and Suits.

I was just about to come into this thread to mention Archer. Best relatively new comedy TV show I would say.

How I Met Your Mother, but honestly I really watch that show for NPH...

This is just a small list of what my DVR currently has the following series on record: Chuck House The Event Lie to Me Human Target Running Wilde The Big Bang Theory Community Modern Family Burn Notice The League The Walking Dead Boardwalk Empire Mad Men Dexter Californication The Simpsons

of course Bleach =)

Burn Notice Lie To Me The Human Target (it's pretty bullshit to be honest) Entourage/Californication are queued up for later Chuck/Warehouse 13 - haven't watched latest season, seemed wack but still queued The Walking Dead was brilliant

The League - check it out, semi-unscripted show centered around a pack of bros

And of course sports.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Dexter, The White Queen, True Blood, Magic City playing now.

These are the shows I watch that are currently still running:

The Walking Dead Shameless Californication Suits Game of Thrones House of Lies The League Vikings Boardwalk Empire Dexter Homeland The Borgias Da Vinci's Demons The White Queen Magic City True Blood

Frank Sinatra - "Alcohol may be man's worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy."

Another Game of Thrones vote here. Complex and captivating story with many different storylines. Oh and nudity, lots of it.

It's Always Sunny was pretty funny, maybe check that out.

Prospective Banker. Gentleman. Bodybuilder.

Must Watch: Game of Thrones Homeland Boardwalk Empire House of Cards Band of Brothers (mini series) Arrested Development The Wire It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Should Watch: West Wing Sopranos Curb Your Enthusiasm Spartacus Californication Suits Lost Louis Ck Mad Men Shameless Weeds (Stop when they get to Mexico) Modern Family How I met Your Mother Newsroom

When in doubt...Dick Pick

I thought nobody would mention Mad Men. I think it's the best thing to happen to television in a long time.

Another vote for Californication; adopting a Hank Moody perspective has changed my life for the better. Arrested Development is also a great show, as is The Wire.

I'm prone to some douchebag moments, and as such am also a huge fan of Entourage.

in it 2 win it

It looks like we're doing an all-time and current list, so here goes:

Current: -Californication -House of Lies -Ray Donovan -Suits -Game of Thrones -The Newsroom -White Collar -NCIS -Sons of Anarchy -The League

All-time: (not including above shows) -West Wing (this is a must-watch, it's definitely liberal-leaning and naive in many ways, but it is an exceptional show) -Friends -Fresh Prince of Bel-Air -Homicide: Life on the Street -The Wire (only made it through 4 seasons... gotta get on that) -South Park (kinda gotten more meh as I aged, still deserves recognition) -The Shield -Band of Brothers/The Pacific (miniseries') -The Office (fell off, but still loved the 1st ~6-7 seasons)

I also like Royal Pains (not great, but decent/consistent), Graceland (too new to be great, but it will be... maybe), Continuum (great for scifi/post-apoc fix), and Revolution (post-apoc fix).

What? Did you ever actually see that show? The laugh tracks and Carlson dancing are swell, I guess.

Game of Thrones is overrated to me.

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.

Current: Boardwalk Empire Sons of Anarchy South Park Always Sunny in Philadelphia Simpsons Breaking Bad Mad Men

Game of Thrones. Simply the best show on television right now, and if you believe otherwise you haven't watched it enough or weren't paying attention.

Also, if you're a reader, the book series it is based off (A Song of Ice and Fire) is fantastic, and this is coming from a guy who never reads for pleasure.

Winter is coming, and the North remembers..

Just started True Blood. I was turned off by the vampire genre, but it's petty good so far. The black chick is really cute. She reminds me of this girl I knew last year.

This is a list of shows that I am watching or have watched in the past (in no particular order):

- Suits
- The Goodwife
- Prison Break

Finally, someone else recognizes those. Prison Break was off by season 3, but was still incredibly compelling.

Shameless right now, I'm re-watching the wire

But I do watch, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, House of Lies. Will be starting Game of Thrones soon.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

I love Homeland - I watched the first two seasons a couple months ago so I can watch Season 3 when it airs in the fall and I breezed through most of the episodes...really addicting.

Just started watching Game of Thrones, which is also great. The Walking Dead is good too. Parks and Rec and Modern Family are probably my two favorite currently running comdedies.

Game of Thrones is really the only show I enjoy watching that's on TV currently, although I also need to give Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire a shot. I used to like Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother but HIMYM fell off in quality a long time ago and Modern isn't as clever as it used to be, although it still has its moments.

The Wire is the GOAT TV show though for sure. It has ruined so many other dramas for me because I always end up comparing those shows to The Wire.

Only really have a few non-miss shows - Suits, The Americans, The League. I catch others like Dexter, Mad Men when I can.

House of Cards was terrific. I like Big Bang but its not must-see. The Following is awful and surprised so many mentioned it.

Awful is a bitch much for The Following I'd say that it is way to unbelievable, so it makes it hard to watch at times.

The majority of movies and shows now a days require that you suspend belief, so it is not like The Following is unusual for requiring that. You aren't going to enjoy TV and Movies if you don't automatically flip that switch. Unless all you watch are documentaries and the History Channel or something.

I'm obsessed with The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon Cooper, HAHAHAHA.

Best drama right now is Elementary, hands down (better than Sherlock on BBC in my humble opinion). My favorite episode so far is when they brought in the guy from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as Moriarty's hired assassin.

Suits and Homeland are entertaining as well. I agree with those losing interest in Modern Family, notwithstanding Sofia Vergara (it's not like she's ripping off all her clothes...and she's whiny). I'm starting to get bored of Parks and Rec as well.

To the GoT fans: if you have not already, you need to watch the show Vikings. Yes, it is on the history channel, but honestly I like it better than Game of Thrones at this point. You can watch it online too.

The Office, for another couple of weeks that is :( Re-runs of Seinfeld forever and always Modern Family sometimes Big Bang Theory sometimes Just started Game of Thrones, just finished season 1. I love it, and it takes me a lot to get into a non-comedy. Can't wait to catch up to the current season.

I wanted to try it out but kinda figured it would be a "dumbed down" version of GoT with just action and not much substance. Not the case?

Trust me I thought the same thing when I started watching it. I'm always hesitant to try the shows my friends suggest, but Vikings goes hard. Yes the story line is not quite as complex, but it is definitely worth a try.

TV Show Addict: Homeland, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Suits, House of Lies, Californication, Breaking Bad, Shameless, Tudors, Justified, The League, Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, Bates Motel, Walking Dead, Spartacus, The Vikings

You guys really need to check out Californication, The Vikings, older show The Tudors, Spartacus, and Magic City. Noticed these weren't mentioned and are amazing shows.

...think that's it. Some have ended like Spartacus and Tudors

The Good Wife is top-quality, as was Friday Night Lights (RIP). I like Mad Men, too, and watched The New Normal for kicks when it was on. Prison Break, True Blood, and Friends are also pretty good.
