What to/what not to ask a Partner in an informational interview?
In a casual informational interview, what kind of questions are best directed at Partners?
Which questions should you save for individuals who are more your "peers" (associates, consultants, analysts, etc.)?
How should your questions/tone differ when interacting with these different groups?
You should totally ask about their comp and their summer plans, you’d seem down to earth
Maybe more high-level questions. Strategic. Longer-term. Partners may not be as interested in discussing things like what tie to wear but rather outlook for an industry and career path. They are busy and time is valuable
As was said before higher level questions about career, development etc are better suited to partner level people.
Additionally people love to talk about themselves especially when they have been successful so the best thing to do is get them talking. Do some research on their background and ask questions about their career path etc.
You can also ask higher level questions about the firm they work at but don't ask anything you can find the answer to on the website.
