What was the low point of your career?
Recently my oncologist told me I wasn't in remission and honestly all I could think about is what that means for my chance at any summer internships. I'm barely above a 3.0 and have no finance related work experience with a little over a year to graduate left.
Anyone got some good stories?
Tell me about an experience you had that you thought might derail your prospects for whatever reason.
Worry about getting healthy then worry about internships. You have extenuating circumstances that serve as a plenty good reason why you couldnt get a SA position. Look for something during the summer so you have atleast some experience.
Hey man,
I agree with getting better first - it will bite you hard when you're sick and working. your boss will hold the condition against you and the stress might trigger nastier effects.
Study hard and learn to build valuable insights. When you're healthy, approach alumni - offer to work for free and if your free work is actually worth something, they'll consider a more formal internship. Move on from there.
You're still in college. Focus on getting/staying healthy. Where you start your career is honestly not that important. You have extenuating circumstance that you will overcome.
As I'm sure you've come to appreciate, life has its highs and lows and perseverance/grit is the most important thing. I've seen highs and lows in my career as have others I know. Not getting a summer internship is so far down on the "things worth worrying about list", even if you limit that list to career problems only.
Probably the best blog out there that has insight into career/life high's and low's is James Altucher's blog. He's lost tons of money, gotten divorced, lost his house, rebuilt his career, found love, etc. Plenty of good stories on there (and yes, he's done a lot of stuff in the finance world).
Your health should always be first. Then work on your grades and worry about the internships at the end. I hope you will get better. Talk to alumni from your school. I am sure they will be sympathetic to your cause.
I'm hoping right now.
being stuck in a job i hated (big 4) audit, and trapped in a dead relationship. Digging out of that was hard but got there in the end. currently quant prop trading in amsterdam and having fun in the local university social circles.
