What will I be doing in a Merrill Lynch PWM internship
What do these internships usually entail? In other words, what kind of things would I end up putting on my resume?

Would also like to know this. Also, what are the chances that a ML branch has a Bloomberg terminal? Just curious
most branches have a bloomberg terminal
Doing touch up work for others. A lot of Excel, looking up numbers, calculating ratios, editing, miscellaneous tasks.

if this is a "real" pwm internship that leads to a ft offer, then i would agree more with the above, but i have a hunch this is one of the many random unpaid internships at ml.
from what i have heard, it's just coldcalling and miscellaneous tasks.
Yeah I agree with fudbox, I know two people who did PWM internships with ML--one of them left after the third week because it was so boring, the other stuck with it but agreed that it was not a particularly beneficial experience
if you leave after the 3rd week, are you still allowed to put it on ur resume
Sure. You can do whatever you want with your resume.
However, if you only worked part-time for 3 weeks and it just happens to cross over months (for example, late june to early july), it would be a fairly dishonest to put:
Summer Intern (or Summer Analyst) June 2009 - July 2009 Merrill Lynch Private Wealth Management
or maybe I am just being anal. Honestly, if it is that short and part-time, I would leave it off.
My first internship was with ML - PWM my freshman summer and was for college credit. While in the office I worked with the Credit Manager who put me in touch with the Credit group in Chicago. I was able to lev that into my soph internship then junior.
So in short is it what you make of it.
ML PWM Internship (Originally Posted: 01/04/2011)
Hi everyone,
So, I was looking around the forum and found that several people have done ML PWM internships to advance their career path. I am in my junior year and heading to my senior soon after spring 2011. I am a student at UIUC with a 2.94 gpa with two (logistics and marketing)internships under my belt.
I am looking for an internship for summer 2011. I tried networking with alumni and tried emailing alot of boutiques i could find. No luck, but I will keep on trying.
However, I am interested in this ML PWM internship that I heard people mentioning around this forum. I've been trying to find this position on their website or BOA's website. I didn't find anything.
Did you contact the local Merrill lynch PWM office to get the internship or was it through your campus career center?
I'm not sure if this helps, but I just contacted ML directly a couple days ago and they've set me up for an interview. Although, I was able to email a VP directly through a mutual acquaintance.
It usually helps to have a connection with the firm. In addition, most of these positions are taken by students finishing up their sophomore year. I would think that the best way to go about this, if you have no other options (such as a local contact), would be to call the office in which you're interested and see if they have anything. This position is not likely to be available via OCR.
You should know, too, that this ends up being mostly a resume booster for sophomores. You are going to have to really build up a role for yourself in the summer if you hope to do anything particularly productive or interesting.
Thanks to both of you responding to my thread. I am planing to use this for spring semester, and hopefully i can get an internship with an IB. I will try contacting alumni network to see if I could come up with something.
Is this the internship you're talking about? http://careers.bankofamerica.com/campusrecruiting/usin-global-wealth-in…
