What would you do in this situation?

So a contact of mine is VP Sales at a BB at the London office. He recently got an offer to be MD Sales and Marketing at a large Fund of Hedge Funds. It was a lot more money, but he turned it down because he likes his prospects where he is.

Question: Smart move? What would you guys do in this case?

Best Response

The job at the fund of hedge funds may be riskier (how long has the fund been around? historical performance? future fundraising potential? etc.) or he may be confident in his promotion track and expecting a big jump in compensation.

Kind of a tough hypothetical question to throw out there. There are a number of factors involved (including many personal factors - e.g. he may really like his co-workers and work environment, the new job could have a lot more traveling and he just had a kid or got married, etc.). Both career tracks sound pretty solid though - MD/Partner-track at a BB or MD at FoF.
