What would you tell your kids you do for a living?
I was talking to my uncle the other day and he was really successful in my eyes and has pretty much been a career CEO and has taken multiple companies public including a tech company just before the tech bubble. Amazingly, he is one of the most grounded people I know and told his three kids that his job was "changing the candy in the candy machines" for years. They now have one of his Father's Day gifts framed in the house cause it was a bio one of the kids made when they were 6 or 7 which lists his profession as just that.
So, assuming you all make it in your dream careers, what would you tell your kids you do? Would you try and keep them humble?
For me?
Dream career: Banking
What I tell my kids I do: I work in sales.
if they were young kids (I don't have any), I'd probably say something like "I help moms & dads make smart decisions with their money so they don't have to worry about it." after which there would be tons of questions. if the kid was middle school age or late elementary school and interested, I'd probably explain rudimentary economics & the stock market after explaining I manage money for families just like ours.
"I shovel filthy lucre in the maw of a ravenous beast called Capitalism. It lurches first here, then there, devouring the wallets, livelihood and souls of innocents who stumble before it. Lo, I feed this beast and it hungers still. I fear it shall one day devour me, o kin of mine. It shall devour me and it shall devour you!"
My go to answer with regular people is:
"I own a bunch of sweatshops in the Philippines... you should see those kids make those hats"
You should see what happens when they refuse to make them.
