What's the deal with NYU summer housing?
I'm in NY for a summer gig that's now starting in July (for now, anyway) and applied to NYU housing in the fall. I logged on to my NYU housing portal thing today and when I click "Cancellation Form" it says the following:
"As a result of the University's April 27th decision to cancel the summer housing program, we are waiving fees for Summer Housing cancellations received April 11th or later. If you have submitted a Summer Housing reservation payment and decide to cancel, it will be refunded."
Does anybody have more info on this? Is there no more NYU summer housing in 2020? I talked with someone from NYU on the phone today and they said nothing about this.
If it is being cancelled, you would think they'd send an email ASAP... confused.
While I don't have info about NYU housing, I wanted to ask about your summer gig. For my internship with a smaller firm in NY, they won't have the option to work from home. I also have a July start date. If all things align, I will be in NY for the internship in person. I'm nervous about the internship being cancelled last minute. What was your employer's stance about your gig, housing arrangements, so forth? Thanks
what firm is it with? or at least, how big is the company?
i'm wondering the same about mine as well. i hope at least they give out offers if they have to cancel and don't want to support WFH
NY investing firm with less than 10 investment professionals, maybe 13 or 15 total employees including non-investment.
That's exactly what I was worried about initially. I was originally supposed to get a housing stipend, so that relieves some of the worry, as I'm sure they would still give those out if we had to find housing even for half the original time. I don't know the specifics of my employer.
I would try to contact HR and either explain your predicament or just ask if they have any idea where they're leaning right now/when they might have more info. Also, absolute worst case, Airbnbs are way cheaper than normal right now, even on short notice.
On the upside you shouldn't have any trouble finding an apartment to rent for the summer even if it's last minute.
