When do you think things will open again?

I understand no one knows and if you look at posts like these from 8 months ago you'll see people thinking that the pandemic would be gone by the summer. But, with the vaccine rolling out soon when do you realistically think cities like NYC will be back with bars and stuff back to normal? I don't want to pay rent to live in a shut down dystopia.

I read something that said everyone who wants a vaccine should have it by June. Who knows if they'll hit that date or if that was a good estimate or not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see things much more normal by late spring/early summer.

I think a good bet is by early summer. Honestly, I think things can begin to open as soon as medical personnel and those who are in high-risk categories get vaccines.

To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.

not so risky prediction - initial vaccine wave coinciding with people being scared because of rising cases coinciding with different govt messaging/increased funding for PPE/nationwide measures to boost manufacturing of vaccines will give businesses/governments confidence to allow reopening beginning in the spring. this could go similarly to how the 1st wave went as cases slowed as people got back outside except this time around there will be increasing vaccinations. unfortunately, as things improve even that will be politicized. some republicans will say that this was never a big deal to begin with and it was solely due to Trump's warp speed program getting a vaccine out. some democrats will say it's because of the Biden administration's response to the pandemic. the truth as always, most likely lies somewhere in the middle.

my advice? focus on what you can control, rather than bitching about the government. life moves on, and so should you (within what you can control)

I think we'll see it happen when the weather gets warm so I'm thinking May. I know people working at hospitals and healthcare firms that told me they get to take the vaccine next week, which was news to me. If we can get enough older people vaccinated between end of December - March, we'll be in really good shape. I also think masks will die out once the weather is warm. They're great having them on now since it's so cold, but people were over it in my neighborhood throughout summer/fall. I it was maybe a 60% rate of people having them on. Once the weather is warm and enough people are vaccinated, I don't see many people keeping them on.
