When to start cold-calling for SA?
I don't think I have much of a shot at an internship with a large firm due to the fact that my school has almost no alumni in finance. I'm having problems finding people to network with. Fortunately, I really don't mind cold-calling, and have managed to get two internships by doing it. With that said, when is the optimal time to start cold-calling (I was thinking February) and what would be the upper end of firms that I could have any shot with by cold-calling (not specific companies, just wondering if I might be able to make it in with lower MM firms). I think I'll be in good shape if I can get a solid internship on my resume before I apply to an MSF program.
Feb is way to late for MM. Need to start now for their process's begin early Jan. Regional boutiques start in the spring, though.
NOW.
Honestly you're probably a little bit late. But it may work out to your advantage: with things slowing down a bit around the holidays, people may feel a bit more generous (with their time) and maybe you'll have more luck with the cold calling.
Good luck.
Tomorrow at 10am.
I've been getting cold emails/calls since late October/early November.
The idea is to start networking before firms start talking to kids at target schools.
Good luck
Alright thanks for the responses everyone. With the MM firms, would you guys recommend calling the main line of the office and asking if anybody at the firm had time to speak to me? Most of the cold-calling I've done has just been to smaller places...not sure how to go about the process for the firms that are slightly bigger.
If you call a main office line I suggest knowing the name of someone you wish to speak to.
